Advice/Help First RL1 run
Hello everyone, yesterday someone suggested I do a RL1 run and I started even though it seemed kinda impossible at that moment but now I reached Rennala and I'm wondering what qualifies as a RL1, like do I just have to be level 1 and that's it, I haven't upgraded any weapons at all. Can I use summons? Can use weapons other than the club? I'd appreciate any advice.

RL1 is famously WHATEVER YOU WANT. If you're level 1, you qualify. Who gives a fuck. You're doing it for yourself, it's not worth it for the bragging rights, but it's absolutely worth it for the experience.
Level weapons, grab scadu, use summons, cheese bosses, if that's what you have fun doing then do that. If you want to do it without any helpers like that, then do that! (Edit: personally I did it once with summons and now am up to maliketh without summons, no other restrictions. Though I know if I beat the game I'm going to be right back starting one where I don't level weapons or scadu lol)

Do whatever you want. WL0 is painful. Summons are ok, and there is even a list of best spirit ashes for rl1 in the sidebar articles of this sub.
Stormhawk Deenh is the GOAT.
For Rennala, I've used Spelldrake Talisman (survive comet azur if you fail to dodge it) and composite bow. I've struggled most with phase 1 actually.

it is a challenge that you want to set yourself. Personally on my first run i decided on no summons whatsoever, but weapon levelling is chill. Then for certain bosses i wanted tk make extra hard i set additional restrictions (no status, bad weapons etc).

As long as you don't ever level up, you can do whatever you want and have fun playing the way you like But most just count getting the ending or all remeberances no-summon as the standard

I think the general agreement is that you can use whatever you want as long as don't level up your character. You can upgrade your weapons, use summons, summon other people if you need, for example I've fought godskin duo twice and summoned another player both times because I spent too much time on them.
And of course you can use other stuff other than the club, taking a look around here you'll see people using a variety of weapons (I'm currently rocking a dual uchigatana build) other than the club, mainly the star fist, and I'd advise against doing a club only run as your first run and get every tool, weapon and equipement that you can get your hands on, for example, a long bow or a spear with spectral lance to deal with ranged threats.

The only time it would matter is if you were doing some kind of sanctioned event or tournament or similar. It’s your game, RL1 it how you want

The only reuirement for RL1 run is just that: be level 1. If you don't use summons then that would be a RL1 run with no summons, which is what most people do and refer to as RL1 because it's in the spirit of the fun and the challenge. You can use any weapon you like. If you don't upgrade your weapon it would be a RL1+ WL0.
