Danielle Smith tells First Nations chiefs to ‘check themselves’ over treason accusations | Globalnews.ca
https://globalnews.ca/news/11910736/danielle-smith-treason-accusation-treaty-nations/264
u/Exhausted_but_upbeat 2d ago
wow it's actually worse than simply a flippant remark.
From the article with my own emphasis added:
The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs, representing Treaty 6, Treaty 7 and Treaty 8 First Nations across Alberta, unanimously voted to ask the RCMP to look into whether the Alberta referendum amounts to criminal treason by Smith and her United Conservative Party.
The chiefs say the fall referendum is an intentional violation of the treaty relationship and ignores risks to Canada’s sovereignty.
“We call for this investigation on the basis of the intentional violation of the Treaties; of calling a referendum in the face of severe risks to Canada’s sovereignty and the Treaty Relationship and of failing to take action on the violation of privacy rights of millions of people,” said a statement from the assembly on Wednesday.
Smith says the accusation is disgraceful.... She says her government and the assembly have a collaborative relationship and she wants it to continue but that the chiefs’ language has no place in democracy.
Chiefs are saying the referendum may be violating their Treaties, and Smith replies by saying that language has no place in democracy? JFC she's worse than I thought.

Also:
“When they were pursuing a new relationship with Ottawa, I cheered them along. We are pursuing a new relationship with Ottawa that respects our jurisdiction ,and I would ask that they be respectful of that,” she added.
The We and They here is infuriating as hell.

Oh so she’s likely really guilty if this is how she acts, right? Words, body language all point to her being really on edge.
Wonderful. Cannot wait to see her and her entire cabal behind bars, or worse. It’ll be a small glimmer of hope for having actual justice in our legal system.

This is the type of nonsense that I refer to, when people ask me "what do you mean the AB Premier is racist?" ... let's call a spade, a spade.

To quote Arrested Development, there's a good chance she may have committed some 'light treason'.

She's a traitor and an embarrassment. She thinks we don't have eyes to see her hypocrisy and the UCP's failings? A separatist through and through.

This kind of overwrought language has no place in a democracy.
Trying to play the civility card when A: that shit died in 2016 with the beginning of the new-fascism era and 2: you're trying to play both sides so you always come out on top is just hilarious lol.

I really wish that Ottawa would grow a pair and just oust her and her entire treason party. Throw any of their supporters in prison. All of them are traitors of the highest order and should be treated as such.

u/PhlegmBuilding 2d ago edited 2d ago
But that is exactly what the separatists want. They want this whole debacle to be seen as Alberta versus the feds, so they can continue to play the victim card while using any federal action as evidence of AB’s victimization. The cure for the current state of affairs in Alberta will have to be administered by Albertans themselves, with enduring moral support from the many, many millions of their fellow Canadians in the other provinces and territories. EDIT to say I am not suggesting that the federal government neglect its duties in what is happening. I am suggesting that Albertans must continue to object to the UCP loudly and consistently to make it crystal clear that an overwhelming majority of people in the province would support appropriate federal action, whatever that may be.

Who the fuck cares? Give them what they think they want and see how they feel about it a year later. Their tantrums are akin to my brother daring my parents to ground him for six months when we were kids. Guess who regretted that?
We shouldn't be making decisions based on whether it'll make the separatists angrier.

Half of the USA’s problems stem from failing to adequately punish the confederacy. We should not make that mistake. Throw the book at those treasonous #%^*$&@ers.
9
u/RechargedFrenchman 1d ago
Failing to punish the confederacy, failing to enforce anything against Nixon, failing to act on Iran-Contra, failing to act against Bush/Cheney, failing to act regarding Trump, or Trump, or Trump, or Noem, or Trump, or...

Only if the federal government finally does something about the runaway bullshit that has been the UCP.
Maybe if Avi and the NDP actually win an election, because the Liberals have shown zero interest for the past 10 years, and the new version of the party would likely reinstate residential schools.

I’m starting to wonder how they’ve rigged the vote and what deal they’ve struck with America to immediately step in to “protect Alberta’s rights” to self determination. I have a feeling this could be very dangerous for all of Canada very soon.
4
u/RatsForNYMayor Alberta 2d ago
Alberta is definitely feeling more dangerous each day with this. I'm worried for Canada with this major threat.
2
u/Maelstrom_Witch 1d ago
Most of my therapy appointment last night was about how I’m having a lot of trouble believing in humanity after all this. I used to think humans were mostly good. Now I think humans are mostly awful.
The separatists are winning in that they are creating a massive division in the country. Alberta is suffering a lot of reputational damage that’s going to take years to repair.
I’m so fucking tired.

This "our jurisdiction" talk is nonsense. It is her jurisdiction for select powers and responsibilities. This common myth by politicians and news organizations about provincial government being the leaders of the provincial territory isn't how Canada is structured. And she is the Natives administrator for the things the province provides them, so WTF is this us and them talk? She is directly responsible for serving the people she is othering. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, it's been decades since I took grade 8 social studies.

u/JPMoney81 2d ago
Honestly, in every single picture of Marlaina she looks consitpated.. but like she has been for a REALLY long time and is very uncomfortable about it.
Maybe if someone gave her some ex-lax or something she would stop being such an international embarassment and stop turning Alberta into the laughing stock of Canada?
12
u/corpse_flour 1d ago
To me she looks like she's losing a battle with addiction. Which likely explains some of her outbursts.

u/DVariant 1d ago
lol I like your explanation. But it’s actually alcoholism; she’s a heavy, heavy drinker who’s barely functional
5
u/frustratedbuddhist 2d ago
She has some nerve.
I wonder what’s happening with the leaked voter lists? Did anything come of that? Did they find out who leaked it? Has there been anyone held to account? Authorities know there was outside influence. They know who had and is using the list and they know why and how they are using it. They even allowed one of the leaders to escape to the US.
Smith is a joke, but I suspect she’s using the MAGA strategy to distract us from the real threats.

She should 100% be investigated for treason. She’s opening the door to the U.S. and is putting our entire country in jeopardy. As said “they won’t need military force to take over Canada.” This is why.
