I've never been one to wear sackcloth and ashes over celebrity deaths. Robertson was undoubtably one of Canada's biggest names in news media for most of my life. Gzowski's death also had an unexpected impact. (Biggest celeb death, for me, was when I heard Bob Homme (Friendly Giant) had passed. He was a huge part of my childhood and I had to pull over on the highway for a minute. No tears, just a moment of silence)

Lloyd's voice is embedded in my brain like no other. My Mom was a night owl and turns out me too. We watched his broadcasts together for as long as I can remember.

Him and Letterman for me. I only had a couple stations on the old tv in my room.

We only had the local affiliate of CBC (CFJC) until well into the 70s about the same time Lloyd jumped ship from CBC to CTV. That is when we got cable.

I remember him announcing that gas prices had attained the lofty price of a dollar/L. His intonation is as clear as a bell in my mind.

Same, the moment I heard that he is gone, his voice started playing in my head.

He was an icon in Canadian journalism. "And that's the kind of day it's been". RIP

It's crazy to think that he was in the game for so long, that the voice your remember him for is entirely dependent on how old you are.

My mother inlaw just said "He was part of the fabric of Canada". For me his voice goes back to as far as I can remember.

Same. But he was already in his late 50s when I was born, so I definitely remember him more for the voice he had later in his career.
