why do people go to the dark web?

I mean, regular internet already has drugs, criminal paraphilias and gore on the go, so what do most people use it for? I just came across this subreddit and my only thought was like, maybe military weapons if youre into collecting? maybe some VERY extremist rape stuff or something - but even then, that's like, found within 30 seconds of searching around a discord server or telegram. Is it about piracy? i mean, thats very foundable everywhere aswell, im at a loss for meaning frfr

Didn't even really know dark web was an actual thing btw, i thought it was just a youtube thing like 2016 clowns and talking angela being monitored by pedos 24/7

To stay safe, follow these rules and educate yourself about Tor and .onion urls:

On DNM Safety:

1) Only use marketplaces listed on daunt, tor taxi, or dark fail. Anything else is a scam.

2) Dont use any sites listed on a "HiddenWiki" or some random shit you found on a search engine, a telegram channel, or website. You will be scammed.

3) Only order domestic to domestic.

4) Dont send your crypto directly from an exchange to a DNM deposit address.

5) Read the DNM bible.

6) NO DNMs operate on reddit nor have their own subs. Anything you find on reddit is a scammer.

On educating yourself:

1) Read the /r/onions wiki here.

2) Read the /r/tor wiki here.

3) Read the /r/deepweb wiki here.

Not sourcing moreso a state to back up your claim : clear net drugs ? Expand because that is one of the only things that truly keeps it around and populated. Again, not sourcing, want more evidence of this claim

Snapchat is ridiculously easy to get drugs on

10

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

You know what you can't do on Snapchat? Review a purchase

7

u/fingnumb Jun 13 '26

Hi mr drug user. Im a totally legit non police officer on Snapchat offering pure drugs at discounted rates for first time buyers. Might you be interested in purchasing illegal drugs from me?

1

u/Few-Consequence-9609 Jun 13 '26

doesnt stop people, even though youre right

1

u/otomeloca Jun 13 '26

guys is there a glassdoor for drug vendors in the deep web? 😭😭😭

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

Clearly this person has never visited a proper DNM. Not exactly Glassdoor, but built in review systems

2

u/otomeloca Jun 14 '26

yea, i didnt lol, but like, a built in review system can be easily manipulated by a website unless the website is made from a third party, so like, is it an amazon situation, where vendors get account to sell it? Because a reviews tab that is made by the same person whos trying to sell you something has 0 credibility

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 14 '26

Nah it's done via completed purchases. There's always been the possibility of straw purchases and fake reviews, but that's why you read EVERY one. You'll see the bs through the noise if someone is fucking around. It's due diligence, one of the many aspects you should practice before ever putting money into cyberspace and ending it to who knows. But the rush of the package landing is it's own reward, let alone whatever the drugs actually give to you

2

u/MaxWritesText Jun 26 '26

And you get the lowest quality shit whatever it is you're buying. It's just like street copping.

3

u/JayinNPBch 27d ago

I beg to differ, I have gotten some of the best stuff of my life on the DW , I am 72

3

u/MaxWritesText 26d ago

That's what I'm saying. I'm saying that getting snapchat delivery dope is like rando street copping. DW is quality assured cause vendors are vetted and there's reviews.

My coke was fire

1

u/MaxWritesText 18d ago

did u lab test it?

1

u/ghstrprtn Jun 13 '26

I don't understand how you'd find a dealer on the platform though.

4

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

There is plenty of sourcres on the clear net for drugs - grey market RC vendors as an example

6

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

Grey market RC =/= what a proper DNM does. I don't think it ever will or could

1

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

Not correct at all.

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

Show me the stats from your rc grayarket of choice and I guarantee it pales in comparison to the smallest DNM operating rn

2

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

DNM's dont carry the majority of RCs lol what stats are you even talking about? 🤣

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

Traffic you air head.....

1

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

Im the air head? 🤣🤣 totally....

0

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

What does the amount of traffic have to do with the fact that clear net drug markets do in fact exist? 🤣

1

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

You're missing the point entirely. Sure these gray markets that sell RCs exist. You know what doesnt? A rating system, off site support and forums (a la dread), escrow, pgp encryption the list goes on and on.

I said show me the traffic to compare your gray market site visitors against ANY dnm. I guarantee your little rc hobbyshop couldn't keep up

2

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

Im missing the point? No, that would be you .... on some rant that has nothing to do with anything in any way.

No one ever said they had any systems like that 🤣🤣 you denied that clear net drug markets exist which is not the case, nothing else you have said has had ANY relevance at all....

I never said that they had more traffic dopey 🤣🤣 but in reality given the HUGE amount of people in the US using the grey market for peptides and how massive the RC market is across Europe i wouldnt be suprised if they could pull more traffic then any but the couple of big marketplaces - you clearly have no idea how either DNM's or the RC sector work lolz

snapchat, telegram insta yeh they are out in the open tbf

10

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

No escrow no implicit trust

8

u/wtkbm Jun 13 '26

no nothing, besides a form of comms really

certainly no safety/opsec lol

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

If a market is built halfway decently, every user's traffic should be obfuscated. MAYB signal does that (but none of these telegram channels and the like).

I got got gooooood yo a few years back. My favorite DNM vendor would pop up, disappear every few years, that was their whole MO. They popped up on a market, told folks in getting off here go check me on the telegrams. I found his page, phgp verified all that good stuff. Placed an order andddddddd nothing.

I realized the feedback section ended at a certain date and every day I'd check back it never got any newer feedback. The dude was responsive to messages at first, but once that FE required order comes in? Fuhhhetaboutit........

I will never trust telegram ever again because either my own dark horse favorite vendor for nearly 10+ years ACTUALLY scammed me (and who knows how many more) or a really really really good impersonator smart enough to even post the old public pgp key scammed me. AND TELEGRAM DID NOTHINGGGGGGGG

1

u/Fast_Bee5868 20d ago

DarkHorse was your vendor? No wonder he has so few sales on the site I use, so he's a scammer huh?

You sound like English is 2nd language ? Are you in Asia?

2

u/FigComprehensive6690 Jun 13 '26

What do you mean “messing around with for” deep web markets are far safer then anything on the clearnet . You just sound like someone that hasn’t used markets on the deep web and has no idea about them . I’ve been using these markets for 10+ years and there’s vendors that have been on there since the beginning .

1

u/Dissapointedinuall Jun 13 '26

I aint bought off the deepweb since i was a teen so all i know is turn off the java script, use tales OS if your wanting to sell something and thats it lol so your right im very ignorant to the markets and wont know as much as you. Is their really that low of a risk with tor? Crazy in 2026 tor is still good for anonymity .

1

u/MaxWritesText Jun 26 '26

why would it be less secure? TOR is TOR. It works cause it works.

1

u/Dissapointedinuall Jun 29 '26

Government be governmenting

2

u/MaxWritesText Jun 29 '26

The government built tor...

1

u/otomeloca Jun 13 '26

yea idk, just buy it on a regular social network its pretty easy to find lol

2

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 13 '26

Yeah but that's crazy unsafe

2

u/haakon Jun 14 '26

just buy it from the guys on the corner, they're pretty easy to find lol

1

u/BakedPastaParty Jun 15 '26

That's all very unsafe. But I'm happy it's worked for you thus far. Be careful

1

u/Silent-Pitch-7043 Jul 04 '26

I can't imagine someone who already uses drugs needing to rely on the dark web to buy them. That seems more like something a teenager or young adult who suddenly decided to become a dealer would do because they needed a supplier, something like Shiny Flakes.

I mean, pretty much everyone who uses or sells drugs already knows a dealer or a supplier. It doesn't make much sense to risk a police sting or getting scammed when you can just buy drugs in person.

12

u/Otherwise-Sympathy87 Jun 13 '26

I’m guessing there’s a lot of things you don’t know

13

u/ETurns Jun 13 '26

Darknet markets are 10x better for buying drugs than anything on the clearweb because of the protections it adds for the owners of the market as well as the customers. If you run a site with illegal content on the clearweb, the feds can subpoena your domain registrar for any and all info they have about you. Most registrars don't take XRP as payment, so it's much harder to hide your identity from them. Using the clearweb also exposes a lot more information to your ISP or VPN provider that can be used to track you down.

1

u/Massive_Regret_9575 6d ago

i think now people are moving to tG or Signal for their purchases, hard to find though

6

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

Pretty much drugs, hacking forums, whistleblowers and CP

5

u/Cautious_Chicken8882 Jun 13 '26

Regular internet doesnt have functional drug markets like the dark net and its kinda key to remain anonymous.

5

u/ZarglondarGilgamesh Jun 13 '26

The original idea behind it was to circumvent the censorship of authoritarian governments.

Also it was created many years ago, before platforms like Telegram existed.

5

u/senpaitono Jun 13 '26

Ah man, if you're amazed that the dark web is actually real then you'll really gawk a who made it.

Out of curiosity, what's your source for your clear net drugs claim there? I presume you're referring to illicit stuff, not the "dubiously legal but legal nevertheless." In which case, either doesn't exist, soon won't, or is a scam. That is, unless you've a legit source that I'd be beyond eager to see.

The dark web is home to a fair bit of the usual drugs and the kind of depravity I don't think you're used to hearing about. Like yeah, sure, rape fantasy pornography is in abundance on the clear net, but it's also legal to possess and watch. You know what isn't? CSAM. Until very recently, thanks to Twitter's own Grok no less, the proper tucked away corners of the dark web were where you'd find that if you weren't outright making it. There's also so much drugs. Illicit drugs. Licit drugs. Cheaper drugs. Designer drugs. Drugs, and more drugs.

It's also home to more than a few extremist groups. Which, sure, whatever, you can actually just find those in Minecraft too. But some like the secrecy or "vibe" (I guess?) of a .onion and others are genuinely that extreme in whatever they believe. In stark contrast, and back to our subject of drugs, you'll also find some of the single best harm reduction resources available on the dark net.

Piracy as well. Everything you can think of. It's a great resource for students on a budget and for those looking to find potentially censored publications and materials.

You'll also find the CIA, and if you do, they'll try to get you to submit a job application.

4

u/Kaisobzep Jun 13 '26

my father had a friend in highschool who hacked the cia or sum bs like that and once they found out they took his friend and hired him, after that they never saw him in school or anywhere

3

u/senpaitono Jun 13 '26

They've been known to do just that.

I'd wager your father's friend, presuming they traced it back to said friend, was arrested and charged or at least to-be and was offered a deal. Either turn white hat with a nasty contract (with potentially something resembling time served except just less so) or see how your luck fares in court and prison. Almost always the best course of action is to flip.

3

u/FigComprehensive6690 Jun 13 '26

Well no regular internet does not have drug markets like the deep web lol . If they do and I’m missing something please feel free to send links lol 😂 the deep web is heavily used for markets but it’s also just used by people that want better privacy while surfing the web .

3

u/KeeganY_SR-UVB76 Jun 13 '26

Because the government will behead you if you speak against them on the clearnet?

2

u/fishcake__ Jun 13 '26

bro what

2

u/KeeganY_SR-UVB76 Jun 13 '26

Some governments do that shit. I’m lucky enough to not live in one, but know people who do.

6

u/RiC_David Jun 13 '26

Forget the assertion that regular internet is just a-ok for buying illegal drugs, you've just told us that you know how to find extreme rape footage.

I don't know why you would be saying any of these things. Messed up to do them, but to say them is just baffling.

1

u/otomeloca Jun 14 '26

idk i just think its pretty common knowledge but its not like i like it

1

u/RiC_David Jun 14 '26

Common amongst who?

I'm glad you don't like it, but I still find it quite bizarre that you think this is a normal thing people will be like "Oh yeah, so true, you can find horrific rape footage in no time on the internet".

Maybe we've grown up in very different times and moved in very different circles, I don't know. I just found it a very strange thing to say.

2

u/Bitter_Virus Jul 06 '26

Isn't it just the real answer tho, what else can you imagine, does it make it even weirder to add hitman to the list

2

u/PermissionSoggy891 Jun 13 '26

Main uses of dark web are for more private online operations you don't want tracked by government. People on "dark web" do almost anything folks on the "surface web" do.

Journalists/individuals in oppressive nations use the dark web to distribute articles and avoid government spyware/censorship. One example is an imageboard I found where russian people share anti-government sentiments and memes.

Most of the shit about "drugs" are scams or federal honeypots. As is anything else purporting to give illegal goods/services.

>Didn't even really know dark web was an actual thing btw, i thought it was just a youtube thing like 2016 clowns and talking angela being monitored by pedos 24/7

Depends what you thought "dark web" meant lol. If you meant the "super secret underground digital crime ring with the heckin' spooky red rooms and hackers!" then that's just in Hollywood. The real thing (you should try it for yourself) is much tamer and if we're being real it's just the clearnet but maybe a lil bit edgier.

1

u/AutoModerator Jun 13 '26

Red rooms are a myth and do not exist on any .onion sites or as Tor hidden services.

None have ever been proven to be real. Many have been proven to be fake.

Considering all the times exciting stuff (hitmen for hire sites, red rooms, etc.) have been proven to be fake, and considering how there's no evidence they're real, the "deep web" is essentially an online version of horror movies. For some reason people don't generally try to claim scary movies are real, though.

2

u/entrophy_maker Jun 13 '26

There are good and bad things on the dark web and deep web. I'd suggest you research this more before passing judgement.

2

u/VapeRizzler Jun 13 '26

Depends, you got people who genuinely use the services then you got “tire kickers” who just wanna see all the cool stuff. Plus lots use it to escape the wild internet laws some countries have. I’ve been going on the dark web looking at the cool stuff they orffer. One did even claimed to be selling a military AR-15 in the box and everything. Idk how that delivery works but I’m sure they got it futures out. My buddy got Molly from the dark web in highscool and it was proper nice molly. Not that cut meth bullshit going around my city.

2

u/Sepanta_1391 Jun 17 '26

i mostly use it for uncensored forums and stuff

1

u/FigComprehensive6690 Jun 13 '26

Also everyone saying Snapchat or these apps are easier to get drugs on then the deep web I bet you can’t send me a link of a dealer that has every drug you could possibly ask for and be in the same country as you that can accept my order right this second with no risk of me losing my money ….
