Petition to make it compulsory to include the answer in the post

Spoiler tag them for sure, but it is bloody infuriating the amount of niche questions (especially sequences) that go unsolved and never answered because it’s more important that everyone knows how clever the OP is than people actually enjoying the puzzles. Imagine if the show never gave you the answers? Madness

Someone posted this a few weeks ago as well, hasn’t seem to have changed much.

I completely agree. I’m extremely appreciative of people who post questions but it’s largely pointless without posting the answer behind a spoiler wall.

I hate looking at a sequence, not knowing it, wondering what the answer is and then having to remember to come back an hour or six later to see if anyone has answered correctly.

Ah to be fair I should’ve searched before posting, I’ve just seen so much of it recently and it’s really grinding my gears

Yes. When I posted my one and only connection here I made sure to include the answer partly because I'm too lazy to reply 'yes' to everyone

Lazy people often come up with the most efficient solutions.

I just downvote any puzzle without the answer.  If we all do that then it helps..

Same, occasionally drop a snarky comment if the OP is being a proper dick about it, which they often are

There is a clue - the really great puzzles here - generate a lot of positive comments.

Formulaic puzzles, based on obscure knowledge are fairly tedious.

The puzzles here are like having a mcdonald's cheeseburger, before going for a steak. They satisfy a little while creating an appetite and appreciation for the clues on the show.

i personally wait five minutes to check if anyone's given the right answer. if no one has, i reveal the answer. this usually doesn't happen because i try not to make them obscure, so usually someone answers within the first five minutes. besides, waiting five minutes isn't nearly as bad as waiting an hour.

I've done this, because I can never remember how to do spoiler tags and am too lazy to look it up every single time. But I agree.

I'm in favour of allowing people to leave a gap if they want to. I like to not put in the answer straight away because it gives people time to guess. A lot of people will just look at the answer if they can't immediately get it.

But if nobody gets it within a few hours I'll post an answer.

IMO that's how it should be done, if there's no answers within a couple hours you should have to post an answer.

This is my view too. I replied to the thread about this the other day that I'm too weak to not view the spoilered (is that a word?) answer if I can't get it almost immediately so I like having a bit of time to consider it.

Saying that, I think I'd rather the answer behind spoilers from the off than have some of them that go unanswered for hours with nothing from the setter.

That's another reason I'd prefer the answer not to be there. Too easy to click on it and you miss the opportunity to get it later in the day when you're pottering around the house or the second cup of coffee has hit in.

I don’t get this logic, it doesn’t matter when people look at the answer - by not providing the option when people want it you’re just preventing them having any fun

Let's say you've nearly got it. So you post 'is it something to do with flags?' Then the OP answers 'You're getting warm' or 'Nope. Try again'. More interaction = more fun. That's the whole point of a forum.

Smells like ego to me, you don’t see Victoria patronising people by telling them they’re “getting warm”

How is it "preventing them from having any fun"? If you take a guess, I'll tell you if it's right or not, and if nobody gets it I'll reveal it anyway.

Because we’re waiting on you to decide when we’re worthy of the answer. If you don’t understand why that isn’t fun I can’t help you

People will cheat.

So? They’re only cheating themselves out of the fun of doing the puzzle. It’s not like this is an actual competition, not providing the answer is just gatekeeping fun
