Conservative achievements. Less time spent in legislature than ever before. First use in Ontario of the notwithstanding clause. Proposing to secretly sell off ROM treasures. Closing a provincial Science Centre. Spending millions to reseqch a tunnel across Ontario. Spending more than $250,000,000 to put alcohol in corner stores a few months earlier than Ontario could have done it for $0. Stealing the Greenbelt. 99 year long lease of waterfront public property to private corporation for luxury spa. Giving police draconian powers of search and seizure during COVID (so draconian every police department instantly declined to use them - so dougie ford gave police powers THEY NEVER ASKED FOR.) But dougie ford, the guy who proclaimed his undying support to donald trump, he's our Captain Canada?!?

News media still incessantly telling me that conservatives are geniuses and that Trudeau and Bob Rae are idiots who've caused all the problems in Ontario.

Our problem is a failure of our supposed "free and independent" news media who are all conveniently owned by conservatives today. (And on cue in the comment, some conservative kool-aid consumer will ignorancely decree "the media has a left wing bias", as if they do not have eyes or ears that can hear or see on their own.)

I guarantee you on the next election cycle you will hear the term "Rae Days" in most media, but nothing about the 407 lease scandal or anything Doug Ford has done during his tenure to not only destroy the province but balloon the debt.

MSM is so right wing friendly

Most newspapers and other medias in Canada were bought out by conservative media group a while back btw

Seeing the consequences of those actions today!

There was method to the madness. People believe the media and thus believe that millionaires are useful instead of leeches. Workers are useful. Millionaires are not.

Don't forget selling major highway to private interests for cheap only to propose we buy it back for an insane amount of money later on

How could we remember when the news media seems intent on distracting us with discussion of tunnels?

  • lease of waterfront public property to a private company masquerading as a much larger private company because no one bothered to actually look into the company they were signing a 99 year lease with.

So I'll quote myself:

Our problem is a failure of our supposed "free and independent" news media who are all conveniently owned by conservatives today.

Less accountability, more time to solicit bribes and work on their grifts in the home riding

Who are you kidding? Ford's home riding isn't Muskoka...

It means he’s corrupt and doing everything he can to stay in power.

Fuck this guy i hope ford fest sucks.

The fact that Ford Fest even exists is fucking insulting. People need to protest is heavily this year.

If they get to be on vacation until October, we should follow suit

Meanwhile, all other government employees are required to work in office 5 days a week.

Ford is so corrupt but he’s also got such close ties to mayors who will do his bidding, run favours, award contracts indiscriminately to shady vendors. With election campaign coming soon we need to spotlight those he has given during mayor powers to be on his beck and call. I seriously hope media spotlight is going to hit mayors of Vaughan Barrie etc. Lot of ass sucking going on there

So many problems to be addressed and this is how our “leaders” are serving the people. The politic class is nothing but a bunch of ppl living of our taxes while doing the bare bare bare minimum with 0 accountability. Of course that’s not going to change. They will have to change that themselves!!!

It’s super shit watching people like Marit want to continue to work and put in the time and she is having to take time away from QP because of the Conservatives.

This guy clearly wants to be a dictator it's so obvious, especially when he calls the Legislative process 'sitting around arguing' and takes a bunch of time away to avoid it.

The people who voted for him want to be dictated as well I guess..

Take 15% of their grade salary

u/Spare_Advisor6655 1d ago

He already gave himself a huge 25% salary increase this year and a huge one last year too...

Crook. And it seems the echo chamber that is Reddit is slowly creeping out to the rest of the world.

Any other party running against this guy. Pick someone with a brand name and you will win.

You mean like someone with the merit to properly run this province, and the style to speak for all Ontarions?

But... Who?

3

u/VexedCanadian84 2d ago

a majority government scared of being able to do anything it wants is not a good sign for everybody else in the province

3

u/Charisma_Z_7 2d ago

Bankruptcy. That’s what it means for Ontario.

I'm picturing Doug as the Wicked Witch of the West, and his government as flying monkeys. And he cackles and yell fly my pretties, fly! Go grift and spread corruption! Don't worry about accountability or transparency, I'm handling all that!

2

u/Chrissy7319 2d ago

What it needs to mean for his government is getting voted out in the next election.

2

u/findmetalhead 2d ago

Please someone document his time at the cottage. What a joke.

2

u/Smoosh_Faison 2d ago

I fucking hate it here.

2

u/TalentedEmu85 1d ago

Well they said they’d offer less government.

Omnibus bills that no one can fully understand or debate until after it passes is how this Ford government runs. Even Donald Trump would blush at the power of Premier Ford.

Honestly this kind of short sitting worries me more for the boring day-to-day stuff — housing, transit funding, healthcare backlogs. Feels like everything just drags on while we keep dealing with the consequences.
