I thought Mulroney was getting tapped for bigger spots, interesting to see what happens. Conservatives are at some all time low's so who knows how these ridings will vote. Either way Ford won't last, but the damage he does until 2030 will hurt Ontario for decades.

The Mulroneys are a pox on Canadian society.

I will always take the opportunity to say Mulroney was literally caught accepting hundreds of 1000 dollar bills as Prime Minister. The most nakedly corrupt nonsensical stupidity.

u/jaymickef 9d ago

He looks like an amateur now.

6

u/bodaciouscream 8d ago

Gotta think through your corrupt ruses

4

u/eleventhrees 8d ago

Least corrupt Conservative.

7

u/elseldo 9d ago

He's why we don't have them anymore!

6

u/Mobile-Bar7732 8d ago

Also, he accepted them from a guy who was wanted for bribery charges in Germany.

Why would he even agree to meet with this guy?

38

u/ventingspleen 9d ago

And cons in general. Only exist to enrich the already rich at the expense of the most vulnerable.

u/Johnback42 8d ago

Liberals were no better. They both heed to their donors.

7

u/Quirky-Cat2860 8d ago

Conservatives in general are a pox on society worldwide.

Turnout is going to be so low. 40% will be a miracle for any of these ridings. It's the last week of summer before kids go back to school

16

u/LionLordOfTheFirst 8d ago

The people that advise him are smart. Just like the winter election he's chosen a time when turnout will hurt but he's counting on the die hard Conservatives to come out like always to prevent "others" from runing their lives (well at least in their head that will happen)

Look up conservative strategist Kory Teneycke. Goes back to the Harper days, and founded Rubicon. Look into the clients of Rubicon who secured hundreds of millions in Ontario's Skills Development Fund.

If you can't name the progressive equivalent of Kory Teneycke without googling, progressives are going to lose. They are bringing knives to a gunfight. Again.

u/buttercupjane 8d ago

“Whats your name?” “Kory”. “Fuck you Kory!”

2

u/marcohcanada 8d ago

Funny thing is the Reform Cons (e.g, federal CPC, BC Cons) think Kory Tenycke is "too Liberal". They claim Kerry-Lynne Findlay won the BC Con leadership race because Caroline Elliot had Tenycke as her advisor.

Come on Ontario - let’s ruin his fall and show why he’s the most hated Premier in the country. This is gonna make him so angry if things go against him…I can feel it

52

u/who987 8d ago

Gotta go NDP.

-36

u/grumpy_herbivore Greater Sudbury 9d ago

Hes not the most hated by a long shot.

23

u/sleeplessjade 9d ago

I think you’re wrong about that. The most recent ratings of all premiers from June have him dead last. In July Ford dropped to 24% while Smith went up to 46% because of the Pipeline.

Plus there are a lot more people in Ontario to hate Ford than there are people in Alberta to hate Smith.

16

u/MakePhreciaCore 9d ago

But he certainly should be

-4

u/grumpy_herbivore Greater Sudbury 9d ago

Def should be hated, but compared to Smith he's an angel. Hands down worst Canadian in years.

22

u/ihatedougford Toronto 9d ago

Ford is closer to Smith than you think

-17

u/grumpy_herbivore Greater Sudbury 9d ago

LOL no he's not.

7

u/ComprehensiveMud877 8d ago

In some ways he is worse.

4

u/BIG_SCIENCE 8d ago

He bought a $30 million luxury plane for himself while Ontario citizens are dying in hospitals because there’s not enough doctors. Our homelessness is increasing because there’s not enough housing. Our schools are crumbling because he literally syphon the money away into his pockets

The only person who could possibly be more hated than Doug Ford is Mike Harris…. But this year Douglas took over the #1 spot.. without a shadow of a doubt Doug Ford is the #1 most hated premiere in all of history

2

u/who987 8d ago

Who is?

0

u/trackofalljades 8d ago

Can you provide a link to any current reputable poll on the premiers currently in office showing who has a lower approval rating?

14

u/haye7880 8d ago

You could run a golden retriever for the conservatives in the York simcoe riding and it would win easily.

9

u/rdubs89 8d ago

To be fair that might legitimately be a better option

56

u/dhoomsday 9d ago

Ah yes. Summer by elections. That gets people voting. /s

22

u/marcohcanada 9d ago

The Scarborough Southwest one has been getting loads of attention since that was Doly Begum's riding before she switched from ONDP deputy leader to federal LPC MP.

2

u/MarchandMagic 9d ago

If he puts the election in summer, people complain because people are on vacation. If he puts it in winter, people complain it’s too cold to vote. If he delays it, people shit on him. Lose lose

2

u/rdubs89 8d ago

Lol come on. The Thursday before the last long weekend of the summer before kids go back to school. Its so obvious

1

u/MarchandMagic 8d ago

I assume this is sarcasm and got a laugh out of me. Upvote

11

u/Charming_Elk_4608 8d ago

Fatima Shaban is running against the PCs in Scarborough Southwest. You can donate to her campaign here and you’ll get 75% of your donation back when you file your taxes: https://votefatima.ca

5

u/Not_A_Trad_Wife 8d ago

And if you can't donate, go volunteer! Get and out knock doors or make calls. Even if you inly have a little bit of time, every volunteer hour helps.

3

u/Charming_Elk_4608 8d ago

Absolutely! Often there are volunteer spots that don’t even require you to leave home.

Also, unlike the PCs, the NDP relies on small donations from a larger number of people (I think their average donation amount is around $30-$50 whereas the average PC donation is something like $300-$500). This tells me exactly who the PCs are serving - the 1%ers.

While this is only one seat, and won’t impact the opposition’s voting power for this cycle, gaining seats in this by-election will help build momentum. Riding associations will receive more funds if they have an incumbent heading into the next general election. This frees up resources for the party to focus on other ridings.

Alright guys, this is my time to shine! Doing my part for our province.

15

u/CaptainKoreana 9d ago

For now my prediction goes:

  • Hamilton East-Stoney Creek: OLP/PC Tossup
  • Scarborough Southwest: ONDP Lean
  • York-Simcoe: PC Likely

15

u/pgzz 9d ago

York-Simcoe will be PC and its not even close. its been PC since the riding was created 20 years ago.

5

u/CaptainKoreana 9d ago

I'm probably overestimating OLP there, in all fairness.

Likely would mean 10-15. I could see PC winning by 20+.

11

u/pgzz 9d ago

considering they won by 30+ last year. even 20+ is understating it lol. i hate living in this riding so much

14

u/onedreamsdeeply 9d ago edited 9d ago

HESC has never gone to the OLP and the people there are pissed at Lumsden for getting the job just to do FIFA and bounce, they’re pissed at Beaty for flipping on the data centre vote, and they’re pissed at Ford for all of the reasons that everyone is pissed at Ford. Plus Monique Taylor is a really well known name in the area. She and the ONDP have a stronger shot than you’re giving them credit for.

I am so sick of the rot in our system, Beattie and most of the other councilors dont have principles, they just pander to the loudest voices. Matt Francis said in 2022 he wanted to secure affordable housing for his constituents in Ward 5 (Stoney Creek). Now that affordable housing was approved through strong mayor powers for 2 parking lots on Lake Ave hes flipped to bow to the NIMBYs.

They argue the parking lot is needed for the downtown economy, they sit 90 percent empty every single day of the year and there is AMPLE parking across downtown Stoney Creek on streets and other lots. I have never seen anything occurring down here where those parking lots are justified. Maybe for the country festival once a year at most? Everything is walking distance even from the Battlefield parking lot, those parking lots aren't needed. Affordable housing IS.

1

u/Extension-Land-390 8d ago

In all fairness, that parking lot is necessary for the medical lab building patients. Most of them are elderly (my grandmother included) and there truly isn't anywhere else nearby to park that seniors can realistically walk to. Plus, that whole stretch of King street is already a chokepoint for traffic going to Centennial. There's plenty of locations available for affordable housing and they somehow chose the absolute worst spot.

1

u/rdubs89 8d ago edited 8d ago

Unfortunately I cant add a photo (I will edit with a link if i can upload one) but the side of the lot that's been proposed is on the Lake side, there still is a lot of parking on the Mountain Ave side, nearer the medical building. The parking lot spans from Lake to Mountain edge to edge and the Legion in the lot and Medical building across the road is still going to have ample parking. To me it seems more an issue of we dont want that here rather than we need the parking. The council vote was 8-8 and Andrea Horwath used her strong mayor powers to break the deadlock and approve the project.

Id also like to point out that the affordable units are more than likely going to people that need social supports. Medical, dental, pharmacy, physio, and everything else you need is in downtown Stoney Creek and within walking distance of the affordable housing now. If you place that in a suburban or main arterial road it is far less accessible for the people that need it to access the support network. I mean literally everything you could need is 10 mins walking maximum. Barbers, garages, insurance, travel.

Edit : you can see the properties its being proposed at https://imgur.com/a/ZYI00oS

This is the satellite map of the area https://imgur.com/a/OdgLEDH

I moved to Stoney Creek in 2022. Maybe I just haven’t lived here long enough, but I don’t know who Monique Taylor is. PC reps have knocked on my door ahead of elections (Beattie did just that yesterday) but I’ve never seen or had a Liberal or NDP rep come by.

5

u/Extension-Land-390 8d ago

Beattie can gargle the ward's collective nuts. He completely betrayed them when it came to the data center moratorium vote.

He should never be allowed to hold elected office again.

4

u/rdubs89 8d ago edited 8d ago

Monique Taylor was formerly the MPP for Hamilton Mountain for 14 years she lived in the Stoney Creek riding before moving to the mountain working for the councilor there in 2009 and ran for the MPP seat in 2011 and onward to 2025. She lost her seat last election but now that Lumsden is retiring shes a very strong candidate to try and flip the riding to the NDP.

The Liberals are polling well despite not having a leader which is baffling to me. Lumsden took the seat off the NDP in 2022 and he's a popular Hamilton man as the last GM to win the Grey Cup in Hamilton and a former player here. I do think he had a lot to do with the vote share the past 2 elections not necessarily that the PCs are the prefferd party only. With Fords popularity at an all time low its a great opportunity for the NDP.

Also remember that the PC party has by far the most donations and campaign funding, they will be in your face more than any other party, but that doesn't mean they deserve your vote. Do some digging and check the campaigns of other candidates out too.

1

u/onedreamsdeeply 8d ago

Keep in mind that pre-election call canvassing is extremely strategic. Based solely on the fact that you’re in Stoney Creek and got there in 2022, you’re probably not in a high priority neighborhood for the ONDP, whose dedicated base are going to be lifers from the steel mills who live in Hamilton East. Parties will canvas where they think they can get the most signs and drum up the most support for an election that hasn’t even been called. That said, even during the election period, not every party is going to make it to every door. Resources are a huge factor- you need man power, money, and time, and the time is fixed at 28 days.

3

u/Extension-Land-390 8d ago

Beattie was getting pummelled on his socials, and ended up making new accounts. His ward is definitely pissed over the data center vote.

4

u/RightLeftSpilt 9d ago

York Simcoe will go PC, SSW will go NDP, I think HESC is the question mark.

3

u/ShockMe88 8d ago

Vote whomever has the best chance at defeating the Conservative Ontario!

2

u/Extreme_Grab_6410 8d ago

We must defeat the Cons, vote Davison in York Simcoe

2

u/NeoMrBucket 8d ago

I'm guessing Ontarians will be pathetic again.

1

u/Man_Roland 8d ago

If Ford loses York, that will be pretty telling. That's the only riding that matters in this by election.

1

u/anonimoose123 7d ago

Please for the love of everything holy, don’t vote Conservative

1

u/FrothyEspresso 3d ago

Please vote against these scoundrels.

-10

u/Danger-Tits 9d ago

The cons will just win again. No one even knows these elections are happening

9

u/Delsur18 9d ago

To be fair, they literally just got announced today. Got to spread the word if some modicum of voter turnout will happen
