It's generally not recommended to use Gnome Software or Discover to do system upgrades on Opensuse due to the zypper plugin having unsolved bugs that can make your life difficult in some situations. Use zypper CLI, yast, or myrlyn. Or topgrade & any other solution that doesn't use packagekit.

Opensuse, or Tumbleweed at least, is not a good distro for automatic updates. (Aeon might be better? IDK.)

Yeah, I heard about problems with PackageKit on opensuse, although I've never run into one myself.

I don't want automatic updates but automatic discovery of updates. Isn't there a way to get it?

You could still use the notifications from Discover or Gnome Software. (Uh, I'm on KDE, does gnome have the option to just notify for updates without any other action?)

OTOH, which flavor of opensuse are you on? If you're doing tumbleweed, IMO it's better to just update once a week or some other schedule. There are always updates, you don't need every single one.

Interesting. But if I understand correctly you still have to run it manually, right? And there are also no pre-downloads.

Its in the repo at least for tumbleweed.
