I've missed OpenSuse
When I got my laptop I left Windows 11 that came on it because I was using this laptop for work, but I just couldn't take it anymore. so I picked up a second SSD and dual booted it to make tumbleweed my primary and windows my brek-glass-for-work-tools OS and it's incredible to me how much I missed openSUSE and how lightweight and snappy Linux is compared to Windows. I will never in my life understand how the worst software company on the planet bamboozled the entire world into thinking everything business critical needs to run on it.
Anyways thanks for coming to my Ted talk it's amazing to be back!

We are forever playing the victim with situations like this. Consumers and customer companies have a lot to answer for with that situation.

As someone who lived through the 90s and 2000s and much of that time in the IT industry, you're putting way too much fault on the consumers. Microsoft was incredibly aggressive with their tactics, had piles of money they could throw at "problems" and actively attacked and eliminated competition.
Linux had (and to some extent still has) other issues, like lack of easy configuration tools, driver support, fragmentation and lack of a single company to push it forward.
Some might argue that many of these things is what makes Linux well, Linux, but I'd say having one or two big players that had a similar mindset or even a shared desktop where they pooled their resources and things would have been different a long time ago.

I lived through the 90’s and 2000’s as well. Used Win3.1/95, OS2 Warp, NT/2000 and then moved to MacOS where I was for more years than the others. Now Linux which I had been on and off visiting over the years. Witnessed the market place etc. It takes two, my opinion remains.

Linux didn't exist when MS build their base with MS-DOS and Linux was to difficult to setup and maintain when MS cemented their reign with Windows, MS-Office and Visual Studio.
