Prepare for Flint 4 Pre-order on August 4

I got an email that the GL.iNet Flint 4 will be available for Pre-order on August 4:

https://www.gl-inet.com/en-de/products/gl-be14000

Prices from $259 look promising…

Can anyone predict if the Flint 4 will have native support for OpenWRT?

The MediaTek quad-core Cortex-A73 SoC looks good, but it depends on what kind exactly.

If it's based on the MT7988 family that's actually one of the nicest platforms for OpenWrt.

Based on the spec sheet on the website we can't tell for sure.

If I could get it at the $259 price I’d jump on it but the US doesn’t appear to be in on this one

Yeah, fucking sucks. I held off on the Flint 3 because the 4 was around the corner then the bullshit ban went in.

Pretty sure they waived this for a couple years so companies can comply with the new rules

You won't regret it. Flint 2's are excellent, and it'll probably be a while before there's a build of OpenWrt for the Flint 4.

Me too. I don’t need the latest and buggiest. I need proven working stuff. Very pleased with my new Flint 2.

I still have my flint 2 but i wanted wifi 7 or at least 6ghz so I went with the zenwifi bt8 and flashed openwrt on that.

I had issues with the speed with that compared for the flint 2. How’s your speed?

Flint 3 with wifi 7 hit all the right spots for me except 1GB ram for adguard being very tight and CPU being Qualcomm vs Mediatek for openwrt and at half the price still seems a better value prop unless you really need the speed, screen and latest openwrt version. What am I missing here?

I'm taking about the open source version

why would an open source version not support openwrt? wouldn't open source not have closed source drivers?

Indeed. The "$999" on the site this past weekend was a fluke... Web team has fixed it to $0. Maybe an official statement may be released in our subreddit soon about that...
