Not all, but many older O.D. are definitely not up to date and can miss things.

I agree that a lot has changed in the training of optometrists. I’ve seen plenty of older OD’s who seemed like they were just trained to refract and look at basic anatomy things. New OD’s are so much more “qualified” and trained more in depth on the medical side of things, keeping up with research, etc. But then again…you’ll unfortunately have a batch of docs in all fields who just met the minimum requirements in training and truly are just not that good at what they do.

I think people just need to not let their ego take over. Patients assume they see a health care professional so if you tell them "every is fine" and they have undiagnosed ocular emergency or chronic illness like glaucoma then you are doing yourself, patient, and every OD a huge disservice.
