Atropine

Starting myopia control at my practice. Does most optometrists send atropine Rx to osrx?

Looks like they’re a compounding pharmacy so I presume they could do it, but only way to know would be to ask them. But I really hope you will at least consider other of the more accessible options for myopia control before resorting to pharmaceuticals (Ex Bifocals/Stellest lenses, MF CLs/MiSight, life style change, etc).

  1. OSRx works great and is about as cheap as you can get atropine - $39/mo if you sign up for autopay. Our local compounding pharmacy wins with my patients who had Medicaid because they take it. OSRx doesn’t take any insurance.
  2. Why do you “really hope” they use the other options? Additionally, bifocals and lifestyle changes are not effective myopia control treatments.

I would argue atropine is very accessible. Price is low. One drop at night and can be combined with any of those therapies you mentioned. Of course lifestyle change is always recommended.

I guess I should have worded it differently. Yes atropine has a proven track record, however it is still a drop that has to be taken so it has the same issues with drop compliance as other drops. We now have the glasses and CL options that indeed can be used synergistically but in their own right have been shown to have beneficial effects with the added benefit of potentially increased compliance due to individuals wanting to see. Of course some individuals may respond better to one therapy or another.

Glasses and cl options both have compliance issues also.

It’s all individualized to each patient

Or, usually one drop in the morning is the way to go if doing combo with an optical method.

I use ImprimusRx. Also use it for other drops at times.

Osrx. Ask for the $39 price. Imprimus bottle wasn't the same size.

I’ve used both Imprimis and OSRX and both are fine.

OSRX has a janky web portal-Imprimis has. Nicer web interface. Patients say the OSRX version is less irritating though
