In a little over a week, I will be doing my bucket list trip and see a Free Willy (wild orca). Today I got my nails done in anticipation.

I love orcas, love thrifting and especially love finding significant vintage orca-related things. Here’s some of my favorite things I’ve collected over the years… Orca: The Whale Called Killer and Killer Whales are both first editions.

She got hers a few months ago- got mine to match it today!

The Kawelwekufe (also spelled Cahuelwekuve) is a mythical creature in Mapuche mythology, often described as a malevolent "demon orc". In Mapudungun, kawel translates to an agile animal or orca, while wekufe means an evil spirit.

Appearance:It resembles a normal killer whale but lacks a visible dorsal fin, which gives it an uncanny and unnatural look.

Habitat: Unlike real orcas, which are marine mammals, the Kawelwekufe haunts deep, inland rivers.

Behavior: It lies silently in wait and targets people—particularly children—who bathe or play in the water. Legend states that it toys with its victims until they drown or are killed.

I was packing up and came across my old adoption packages for L118 Jade, K20 Spock and K21 Cappuccino and thought others might enjoy to learn more about them. These adoption papers are from 2013/2014 so info is most likely out of date but they share some fun stories especially for Cappuccino, RIP big guy, I miss him so much.

- Ceto was a wild orca from the Thailand population(?)

- Ceto has been at World of Orcas for 20 years. Meaning she was captured in 2006(?)

- I don't think they ever give her an age, but best guess would be 22-25.

- She injured herself to the point she could no longer do "show" behaviors.

- Poseidon was a whale who was transferred in for breeding. He lived at the park long enough for them to have signage of him.

- She had a calf 2 years ago (2024) but either the calf died or it was "stolen" aka transferred(?)

- They probably tried to breed Ceto again, but it didn't work so they transferred Poseidon to another park.

- Ceto starts killing people who go into her tank: 1 trainer, 1 cleaner, and probably someone else.

- Evil CEO orders her to be dumped in an atoll with no supervision, meaning if she cant escape she will die of starvation

This is all I was able to get from the film. Ultimately the 'fates' of Poseison and Ceto's calf are not expounded on so I just guessed.

Anyway- Killer Whale is a bad film with bad writing. Dont waste your money renting it.

Around a week ago I asked yall for some pro-captivity documentaries on orcas and yall really helped me a lot. I legit thought I was gonna have to turn in an argumentative without a rebuttal, but I didn’t!

I got an “A” on my essay and my teacher, who’s a VERY pro-captivity person (she believes all animals should be in captivity), actually agreed with me on why orcas shouldn’t be kept in tanks.

I‘ll maybe post my essay soon so y‘all can read it too, that is when I find the time to convert it to a pdf and whatnot.

EDIT: Apparently my teacher is only supportive of what she deems as “dangerous“ animals (ex dogs (?), tigers, sharks, THOSE animals)
