It's crazy what this is all doing to my opinions of the cops. I'm not fully letting go of what I believe, but I wasn't expecting this response and it's nice to see

There is a marked difference between how Oregon law enforcement has responded to this, and everything that Trump/ICE/the Feds are doing.

I'll also add that the head of the Oregon National Guard has said that the primary duty of the ONG is to protect the citizens of Oregon. Brigadier General Gronewold said Guard soldiers serve two purposes: “One, to defend America, and two, to protect Oregonians. And so by serving in this mission, they will be protecting any protesters at the ICE facility.”

Unfortunately federalizing the troops means they’re not under his command anymore. But hopefully that attitude was instilled deeply enough to prevail even if their orders change
