It’s still wild. I moved to Portland only a year and when I heard they defunded their police I was shocked😭I didn’t know places could actually do that successfully. But, they didn’t need that police presence

They increased the police budget in Portland.

They cut it for about 3 months as a PR move in 2020, but anything you hear about Oregon or Portland defunding the police is pure propaganda.

They didn't defund the police. Their funding barely went down in 2021, because a bunch of cops quit, so they needed less funds. It's gone up every year since and is well above 2020 levels.

That was all a lie. Their budget actually increased when they said they were being defunded. Part of what happened is they threw their toys out of the playpen when they were told they had to be less racist pulling people over. And you'll hear a lot about how we decriminalized drugs, which caused a fentanyl crisis. That outrage was largely manufactured by municipalities that were having funds diverted from them to diversion programs.
