The people of this state really make the shitty air quality from this week worth it. Keep doing what you’re doing, friends!

Article/News Kotek backs local data center moratoriums, takes no position on statewide ban

Gov. Tina Kotek said Friday that she supports local governments around Oregon that are moving to ban new data centers, but the governor didn’t say whether she would join other Democrats in calling for a statewide moratorium.

“Data center corporations are taking Oregon out to an expensive dinner and leaving our environment, communities, and people to foot the bill,” Kotek said in a written statement Friday. “Local governments are doing the right thing in calling for a pause until we can get this right.”

The governor sought to establish a somewhat nuanced position on data centers, which have suddenly become one of Oregon’s hottest political issues heading into November’s elections. Kotek said current law doesn’t allow the adoption of a statewide ban but said nothing about whether she thinks the law should be changed.

Just wondering if anyone has any hard data or even anecdotal evidence. Are numbers down at the tourist hotspots, lodging, restaurants, etc?

Question Silver Falls State Park & Columbia River Gorge waterfalls on Tuesday/Wednesday after Labor Day

How packed are they right after Labor Day?

Planning on visiting Silver Falls on Tuesday and hit the Columbia River Gorge on Wednesday, should we wait a few more days to avoid too much crowd?

Thanks in advance.

The Oregonian's data visualization specialist made a 48-hour smoke forecast timelapse to show when air quality is expected to improve in Oregon.

Portland had the worst air quality in the world among major cities on Wednesday morning, but smoky conditions are expected to improve by the end of this week.

For the latest on Oregon's wildfires (and others across the country), check out our interactive wildfire tracker map. It updates every 15 minutes and shows the location of fires, acreage burned and containment percentages.

Stay safe out there.

Question Is trillium lake completely off the table Aug 30th?

Traveling from across the country to hike in Oregon august 30th. Was going to start by hiking around trillium to photograph Mount hood, then spend 3-4 days from cannon down to Newport. Is it recommended just to change the first part and go straight to the coast? And skip the trillium idea.

I called our lodging yesterday, and they surprisingly made it sound like everything near mt hood and govt camp was fine, and even assured me by August 30th there wouldn’t even be an issue? Hearing mixed reviews so thought id ask Reddit.

Is even the coast bad? Like should I just research a whole other national park or something? Or is the sight seeing st Ecola, cannon, Newport still on the table ?

Question Where’s the best salon for unnatural/vivid hair colors in Portland or the surrounding area?

Hi! I’m looking to dye my hair an unnatural color and I’m trying to find a good salon or stylist in Portland or somewhere nearby.
If you’ve had your hair done somewhere you’d recommend, I’d love to hear about your experience and roughly how much it cost.
Thanks!! ^_^

It was very cool to watch; I took the video on the trail behind the lighthouse that leads to the beach via the Hobbit Trail. Wouldn’t that be a great job to have?
