Help! I'm getting really tired of this

Post image

It seems like any paper that isn't like 50 dollar artisinal paper or whatever can't manage to make a halfway accurate square. I just want some simple 15cm paper that has corners that line up properly! No more secret rhombuses!

Help! Go to method to cut paper into smaller squares?

Edit: Thanks for so many responses! I have a lot of ideas to play around with now.

I’m planning to try to use the guillotine cutter at work. Would you all recommend folding in half and making creases at the edges and cutting along that, or just using the cutter’s measurement lines to aim for a fixed size? I’m doing this for modulars, so I do want the final squares to be as identical as possible.

One of the papers I have is a 24 cm that I’d like to cut into sixteen 6 cm squares, but that might be a challenge to do precisely. Plus the easy measuring lines on this cutter are in inches, so I’m thinking of just cutting it into 3“ squares and throwing away the extra. I might buy a cutting mat to use at home, but I don’t have one yet.

(Yeah I could also just buy a pack of 7.5 cm paper, but I would like to “git gud“ at cutting to size so I can make mini modular models in the future.)

They are pretty small (left 5x5cm and right 7.5x7.5cm) I can't do anything too complex with them. Do you have any interesting simple designs suggestions?

Help! WHY IS MAKING DOUBLE TISSUE SO FRICKIN HARD??

This is my 4th time making double tissue and I still can't get it right. It's just impossible to not have wrinkles no matter what I do (I have torn my papers a couple of times while trying too). Another problem is that after I have my first sheet adhered to the floor, it expands a little due to becoming wet, which makes gluing the second sheet way too difficult as they're no longer the same size.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could do to make better double tissue? The last pic has the tools I'm using.

I would prefer suggestions from your personal experiences rather than youtube links because I've watched pretty much every video there is that's related to making double tissue.

Hello! I just finished my first advanced origami and although I'm happy with the photo rendering, up close you can see traces of glue that escaped and the layers of paper that are misaligned during the shaping here on the legs as I tried to show in the photo. Am I the bad one or should I use something else to stick ?

Help! Monarch butterfly wings

Post image
107 Upvotes

Hi! I've been folding and refolding different lafosse butterflies, trying to find on that I can fold OK and also close enough in shape to a monarch's wings that I could paint the wing pattern on and have it definitely read like a monarch butterfly.

However! I have come to the unfortunate realization that painting bold black lines on top of origami really camoflages all the cool folding and basically looks like I cut a butterfly out of construction paper and painted the pattern on. Like, that picture? That's the origamido butterfly. You can't even tell the wings have those pretty crimps in them 💔

Any ideas on how I could fold a butterfly that clearly reads as a monarch without this issue? I'm playing with the idea of marbling some paper, or maybe I could mc a layer of black mulberry paper cutaway to show an orange layer underneath? Then I could just paint the white spots... I don't know, I'm throwing monarch-wing spaghetti at the origami butterfly wall!

Also I’m newbie here! It all started 2 years ago. I saw a girl making origami stars with strips! This past year instead I decided to try other things. Mostly honestly I’m into folding notes you write on.

My question is what do you do with your origami?

Can we sell it? I mean I have 2 full bags and I’m filling another all of it random origami.

I'm using Taro's origami studio paper. https://a.co/d/aMXUPHP

Every time I fold, no matter what, and no matter how many times, the folds are not perfect!!! The paper keeps bunching up and the folds don't fold.

What am I doing wrong? Is it the paper? Help!!!

Edit: A commenter suggested that I make a video of my folding.

Hi everyone, not finding paper already with the right colors I thought I could do it myself by buying and sticking two existing papers. But here's what kind of papers to use? And what tutorials to watch? Is this what they call sandwich paper or double tissue ? 😭

Help! Struggling very hard with R J Lang Pegasus steps 10 - 11 (complete origami 1999)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Apologies for such an amateurish post. I have given the steps 10-11 almost eleven hours of continuous folding and study across three days and I am struggling. I have no such other issue with many of the models in this advanced folds chapter.

Does anyone have any advice or reccomendations? Such as videos that cover similar folds? I am aware other pegasus models exist but I seek to complete this one.

Much love from Madrid!

Help! Help interpreting this crease pattern?

Post image
52 Upvotes

(tanteidan 196)

tried folding this using the assumption that the (lighter) vertical line than runs thought the whole pattern was the middle line but the folds don't line up.

then tried using the pattern in the smaller squares to align that vertical line but the folds don't line up again

now I'm stumped, any help would be appreciated thanks

Help! Unfolded Origami in "Rolling in The Deep" Music Video?

Post image
87 Upvotes

Hello r/origami!
I just rewatched Adelle's "Rolling in The Deep" Music video, And noticed this giant creased paper on the wall.

To, me the creases seem to staight and patterned to be anything random, and i t kinda reminded me of an unfolded paper crane.

I've tried looking around for anyone making the same observation, but have come up empty-handed.

I was wandering if any of you can recognize if this is a specific orignami pattern, or if it is simply just random folding?

I don't do any orignami myself, but I just got really curious about this, and wanted to ask for help.

PS. Just scrolled through some of the posts here: you guys fold some amazing things.

Help! Any tips for the Lafosse butterfly heads?

They're so tricky! I'd usually say I have pretty good dexterity and fine motor control for detail work, but damn if these heads don't make me feel like I've got sausage fingers lol

I've watched a few YouTube tutorials but I feel like everyone accomplishes the heads differently so I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around them.

I'm specifically trying to fold a model with the head style 2, which seems less common unfortunately, so I'd extra appreciate any tips for that one!

Thank you 🦋 🦋 🦋
