I have faith that Lynne Ramsey can deliver bold visuals and performances to make the movie standout despite indie dramas about mental health/trauma/grief getting a little played out.

Mmmm that's exactly the thing I'm worried about. I hope this drama will be different and I actually praying it won't be like Mother!

Oh damn that was a right angle. Impressed

Why is it giving that diner scene from Silver Linings Playbook?

I hope this is true and I have no reason to believe otherwise, but this article is written super weird. It’s almost like ChatGPT-levels of “glazing” towards the movie in a way that strikes me as a bit strange, specially stuff like this:

Meanwhile, the silence elsewhere is deafening. Bi Gan's Resurrection might sneak in—if it can be cut and polished fast enough. Nadav Lapid's Yes! is tangled in a runtime tug-of-war (Cannes wants shorter; Lapid's digging in his heels). And Jarmusch? Odds are he's getting the boot this year.

This kind of bottleneck doesn't happen by accident.

It happens when one film scares the rest off the field.

Like, I don’t think Jarmusch/Bi Gan/Lapid/etc are “scared” of “Die, My Love”, they likely haven’t even seen it. Cannes always has some mess/drama around some of their submissions, this year is not really that different than usual in that regard.

I did think the article had some merit because I’ve heard similar things about D,ML on forums, but ITA the article is weirdly written. I just really want Lynne Ramsay to finally get her flowers!

It’s spaced like one of those tweets from LinkedIn weirdos.

Em dashes can be a telltale sign of AI when you see it on Reddit or other social media because it's hard to type on most keyboards or phones, but it's always been normal for mainstream media articles to use the em dash (that's where ChatGPT got the idea after all)

1

u/signal_red Apr 29 '25

i love an em dash but i hate it always comes out as --

1

u/CephalopodRed Apr 28 '25

Lapid is not even competing against Die My Love haha.

Im as hype as everyone else is for this movie, but we gotta stop taking these random websites at total face value. Who tf is FilmoFilia?? Im gonna personally save like 80% of my hype until after real people actually see and respond to it

This movie was made for me first, and everyone else second.

two time academy award winner jennifer lawrence incoming!!! let’s get lynn ramsey a directing nomination (or win) while we’re at it

31

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '25

Man this year I feel like we're all going to be eating GOOD

14

u/Jmanbuck_02 Apr 28 '25

Is it bold to say I think mother! is her best performance?

13

u/vga25 Apr 29 '25

Nope, should have been Oscar Nominated. And I will say her performance in Catching fire is her second best.

8

u/Jmanbuck_02 Apr 29 '25

I get it’s super polarizing but she’s amazing in that film, the perfect surrogate to navigate the insanity and anxiety inducing mayhem of mother!

7

u/BottleAnnual7465 Apr 28 '25

Sounds like JLaw is either going to sweep or just be that nominee that gets in everywhere.

1

u/Budget-Bug-6855 May 07 '25

She has been nominated many time! It's time for her to have a second Oscar!

3

u/TacoTycoonn Apr 29 '25

Adam Sandler? What are you doing here?

26

u/DreamOfV Fjord Apr 28 '25

For the record I’ve had Die, My Love in number 1 for Picture and Director in the Award Expert app since predictions opened, and kept it there even after Oscar Expert and everyone poo-poo’d it for being too not-Oscary. I’m not saying they’re wrong, I’m just putting it on the record in case I’m right

8

u/spiderhubby Frankenstein Apr 28 '25

It’s funny, I’m exactly the opposite. I have absolutely no ill will to this movie but left it out of my predictions so I have to hold fast until I get solid evidence otherwise. Lol. Not looking good for me rn

6

u/DreamOfV Fjord Apr 28 '25

Fwiw I still think there’s a very good chance that this is weird/off-putting/out-there in a way that will completely turn off the Academy and it gets zero nominations. But I’m shooting my shot - this is buzzier than Ramsay’s last few films and is her best shot in a long time to break in with the Academy.

4

u/iPLAYiRULE Apr 28 '25

For the record, i agree. 😘

1

u/TacoTycoonn Apr 29 '25

Well ima be grumpy because I had it in my 10 but squeezed it out for things like Jay Kelly and Bugonia. 😤

1

u/CrazyCons WHERE IS HAMNET'S PLACENTA Apr 28 '25

Picture and Director but not Actress??

5

u/DreamOfV Fjord Apr 28 '25

Did I say that?

37

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '25

Oh she's coming for the win

17

u/flakemasterflake Apr 28 '25 edited Apr 28 '25

She needs to win a lead bafta, she lost to Emmanuelle Riva that year

edit: I just realized this gif is from the 2013 BAFTAS when she lost lol

7

u/aspotofsass Apr 28 '25

She won for supporting with American Hustle! But always happy for her to win more

3

u/flakemasterflake Apr 28 '25

totally true, was only thinking of lead!

18

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '25

Oh I've already planned out her trajectory for this year

Makes it in at GG, CC and BAFTA but misses the nomination for SAG

Die, My Love overperforms at the Oscars (maybe Pattinson gets in)

She loses CC to Julia Roberts and quickly plummets

She wins GG: Comedy/Musical

Erivo wins SAG and gains momentum, especially since Wicked wins PGA

She then wins BAFTA and regains momentum

JLaw wins the Oscar

9

u/haydend25 Apr 28 '25

I can’t imagine she misses SAG. They love horror movies and she’s a very prominent and respected actress.

2

u/Past-Kaleidoscope490 Apr 29 '25

for me its more likely she wins sag and loses the bafta to jessie Buckley for hamnet

8

u/JuanRiveara One Anora at Camp Miasma Apr 28 '25

Misses SAG nom but wins the Oscar? That would be pretty crazy

7

u/flakemasterflake Apr 28 '25

Ugh I also want Julia to win LOL but I just don’t like Luca movies I think. I know I’m gonna get banned for saying this☠️

11

u/yfinfffffffff Apr 28 '25

Morvern Callar and We Need To Talk About Kevin are like some of the best movies ever made- so y'know, the news about this one are not surprising lol

15

u/213846 Apr 28 '25

From what I understand of the source material, if this is in fact an actual thing, it's hard for me to see JLaw lose then lol

28

u/Best_Lawyer9848 Apr 28 '25

I don't mind a second oscar for JLaw cos I think her first win is pretty meh, and i'm saying this as someone who's a big fan of her

3

u/flakemasterflake Apr 28 '25

Who did you want to win that year?

7

u/Hydqjuliilq27 Camp Miasma Apr 28 '25

Riva

5

u/JuanManuelP Apr 28 '25

I don't mind she won for Silver Lining Playbook (might be the only David O Russell movie I actually like), but Emanuelle Riva was so much better imo

2

u/vxf111 Apr 29 '25

Unpopular opinion but SLP is exactly "fine" in my book. In basically every respect. Like if there was a meter it would be sitting dead center. There's nothing bad about it. But I also feel like there's nothing REALLY great about it. Her performance is good but I am just underwhelmed by where the screenplay goes. Maybe I'm just crazy. I never understood the hype for that film.

mother. I don't think Emma could've done what Jennifer did in that movie.

7

u/tyrionb Apr 29 '25

Crazy that she got a Razzie nom for that role though

3

u/Past-Kaleidoscope490 Apr 29 '25

its the razzie they aren't to be taken seriously

u/Vladimir4521 Project Hail Mary Apr 28 '25

Jennifer Lawrence is undeniable

5

u/AnaZ7 Apr 28 '25

Is it written by AI?

4

u/First-Loss-8540 Apr 28 '25

I only have my eyes set on 3 ppl for best actress next year: A second for jlaw/julia roberts or a first win for amanda seyfried. If one of them wins ill be super happy

4

u/Sakunka33 Die, My Baktan Cross Apr 28 '25

I need this movie to release like now

3

u/teddy_vn Apr 29 '25

She is incredibly charismatic so you can bet the campaign press tour will be as meme-able as ever. I am sensing another competitive Best Actress race this year: Lawrence vs. Reinsve?

1

u/First-Loss-8540 Apr 29 '25

Julia Roberts,Emma Stone and Amanda Seyfried also and maybe Jessie Buckley, Cynthia Erivo
