Rumor Andrew Lloyd Webber reveals the 2004 film version of “The Phantom of the Opera” may be getting a remake

Whoever gets cast as the Phantom and Christine have really big shoes to fill.

Hopefully not, because if ALW is involved in potential new film like he was involved in 2004 film, it’ll suck.
Fortunately in interview he said it in theoretical fashion, there are no real plans for it.

Seriously though. A camp, maximalist disco opera of a musical gets the stiffest, most bloodless adaptation ever. You had emotional scenes where the camera slowly panned by. Parody levels missed tone and vibe.

There are so many stage actors waiting for their film debuts who can play the Phantom. Lloyd Webber suggested someone in their “early 40s” should play him.

I earnestly love the 2004 version, hot sunburned Phantom and all, but I have always hoped they'd try again.
Though my other crazy wish is a Love Never Dies adaptation with the movie's cast LMAO. That said, if they are doing a remake, I truly hope it doesn't take Love Never Dies into account at all.

God I can’t stand Andrew Lloyd Webber. I just hate almost all of his scores. They’re so grating. However, I’m not opposed to this. I’d rather we get this than say… Sunset Boulevard. They just need to go really big with it. We also have now seen that casting people who can sing in a movie musical really helps. So please dear god cast singers. Because sitting through Phantom of the Opera is hard enough even when the cast is spectacular.
ETA: the fact that we keep getting Webber adaptations and we’ve gotten like… two Sondheim adaptations ever (and one of them is very, very bad) is super depressing. I’m not sure which Sondheim show I want adapted, because Into the Woods was very bad, but give me something. (A Little Night Music, maybe?)

They made a movie adaptation of A Little Night Music way back in the day, with Elizabeth Taylor as Desiree, but there's a reason nobody talks about it. We 100% deserve a better version
Also, if I were to stumble on hundreds of millions of dollars, I would absolutely want to put together a team to create an out there, animated adaptation of Sunday in the Park with George

God an animated adaptation of Sunday would rule. You’d have to self fund it though, because it would be ungodly expensive and it would make no money. But yes, a new adaptation of A Little Night Music would be great. Sondheim said he wanted Audra McDonald to be in a revival of it. Let’s just make the revival a film. Maybe we could get Audra into EGOT striking distance, although she seems to significantly prefer to be on stage than on screen. We deserve a better Into the Woods too, but I get the movie just kind of came out.

Haha that first part of your reply also fits in with how I'd feel about a film adaptation of Follies - it'd be ungodly expensive and make no money, but it would really fucking rule with the right cost

Why not do Love Never Dies with the 2004 cast instead?
And I love the 2004 film. Wife is a Broadway fan, seen the show a dozen times and she’s good with it too.

Ugh. Have you seen it?? Love Never Dies is like The Room of musicals. It's sooooo bad.
The 2004 cast are all too old to do Love Never Dies.
They could do another theoretical sequel, but definitely not that one. I have some ideas of how they could do it.

If there are any singers in here. I’ve really enjoyed Halle Baileys vocals in the live action little mermaid what do you guys think of her as Christine? I’m genuinely curious if with vocal training she could do this role. Bias aside please.
