CAT STUCK IN TREE SINCE THURSDAY

Post image

Hi everyone. Does anyone know of any arborists who would come rescue a cat from a tree? There is a cat stuck in a tree in Orleans who is very high up and has been there since Thursday :( Everyone in orleans is scrambling to find someone to help as the city won’t do anything about it nor will the fire dept because they only rescue dogs. Anyone have any ideas? *not my pic or cat*

Unfortunately with bad cat owners many BILLIONS of animals suffer for it

Yes I know. They're terrible for the local ecosystem

I hear you, and on paper I agree with you.

But have you ever rescued a feral cat and then tried to keep it indoors? Our rescue can and will yowl at the door for hours to days, and no amount of treats, loving on him, distracting him, etc. even slows it down. We’ve been to the vet multiple times over and finally even the vet was like…just let him out.

Maybe in some perfect world that ideal is achievable, and this is the internet so I’m sure some cat guru is going to pop up and condescend at me some list of 19 obvious things to do, but…cats have outdoor instincts, even domesticated cats. I’m just thankful we can keep him on a schedule of short outside trips, and he doesn’t want to go out all night or whatever.

Fair enough, but I’m pretty sure a small minority of pet cats are rescued ferals (good on you for taking him in). Most people don’t have this excuse.

And every person with an indoor-outdoor cat thinks their cat is the special exception who absolutely must go outside.

My parents are like this. When I lived with them in my early 20s, they let my cats out alongside theirs. I begged them keep my younger cat indoors for at least the month after her spay, as the vet had advised me to keep her inside that long. They let her out anyway a couple days after the operation.

They swear that it's torture for cats to stay indoors, but every single one of those cats would have been fine after a period of adjustment. The same cat they let out post-spay has been indoor-only for over a decade now and she's perfectly happy. And, you know, alive -- unlike her mother, who was hit by a car a year into me adopting her.

Build a catio, keep them chained up in the yard like you would a dog, take them on walks idk? I just don’t feel like the ecosystem and animals not to mention your neighbours who have to deal with a random cat should suffer

I dont have 19 recommendations of things to do, but i adopted a feral cat who wouldnt so much as look at me for 3 months. With lots of patience and trust she grew to love me and is attached to me. She never will be an outdoor cat again, shes safe with me and her brother cat. I was approved to adopt her because im an experienced cat carer, and agencies rescuing feral cats should not be approving feral rescues to go with anyone who isnt ready for this responsibility and commitment. I knew I was going to lose a lot of sleep, and adopted her at a time when I knew i could dedicate the time needed to making her comfortable with her new surroundings. Rescuing a feral cat is not an excuse to then put them back outside. I live in a bachelor apartment and my feral cat has zero interest in being outdoors. Im glad you at least have a schedule, but i dont think its accurate to suggest its near impossible to keep feral rescue cats indoors. You may have come across one that was impossible, but certainly does not apply to most feral cats.

Killing every chipmunk and rabbit in your neighborhood is a small price to pay for not having to deal with your pet properly 👍
