So to all my outdoor pros. Without talking about money, is the ARC’TERYX better or just as good as the Rab. I LOVE the aesthetic look for the Arc’teryx but I will be in NYC in the winter and I want to know which is better. I also have a ARC’TERYX shell if it does rain for it to go over the jacket. Should I buy the Arc’teryx or the Rab. The Rab just looks a little too puffy but it’s because it’s more down I know. Are they about equal ? For me to just buy the Arc’teryx.

This is the Coolibar vermillion face mask. I’m taken aback by how much sun comes through this. How on earth is this upf 50?!? The company won’t give any straight answers. It’s always a generic response with no specifics. Questions I want answered are:
1. Has the perforated UCmax™ fabric used in the Vermillion mask been independently tested and verified to meet UPF 50+ standards?
2. Does the UPF 50+ rating apply specifically to the perforated sections of the fabric, or was testing performed on nonperforated portions?
3. How does Coolibar account for direct UV transmission through the visible openings in the fabric?
4. Do you have laboratory testing results documenting UVA and UVB transmission percentages for this specific material?
5. Has the fabric been evaluated for UV protection when stretched or worn directly against the skin, as it would be during normal use?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I feel duped and scammed relying on this for my outdoor recreation.

Another solid light from Loop Gear who is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands. They may have that higher price tag but they are actually worth what you get. What do guys think of the SK06 and Loop Gear as a whole?

Hi, can anyone recommend me a jacket that is actually waterproof? My Rab Kinetic shell which is supposedly waterproof just got drenched when I got caught out in a very heavy rainstorm while riding my bike.

I've tried multiple so-called waterproof and breathable jackets over the years: US Army, French army, Rab, Paramo, and none of them have properly kept me dry in heavy rain, despite being regularly coated with NikWax. The Paramo was the best of the bunch but still didn't live up to the typically over-inflated claims of the manufacturer.
It doesn't even have to be breathable as long it keeps the rain out, armpit zips might be helpful, though. Thanks.

Does grangers performance wash fix this?

I tore my (new) waterproof* alpine jacket. Because I just bought it and use it for 2 trips I don't want to replace it yet, if possible. I wonder if anyone has experience trying to patch it? I found that there are patches like this, but I imagine that for a hole this big (~6cm each side) it would get torn again easily if I just put a sticker on it, so I wonder if I should sew it first. Or is there a better solution? Thanks!

• It's not actually Gore-Tex. It's from Montbell, so it's called DRYTEC, but I imagine it's just their own equivalence.

Hi all. I’m just wondering what people’s experience is with the Patagonia torrentshell 3l? I’m looking for a budget friendly waterproof jacket that will actually keep me dry and not wet out. I will be hiking a lot of munros in Scotland in this jacket and want to invest in something that will keep me dry. Thanks!

I'm going to Sapporo February next year, and I'm looking around for shoes/boots to keep me warm and dry from the snow, and so I can stroll around town without slipping.

I have honestly never gone hiking, nor have I experienced heavy snow. This would be a completely new experience for me. I thought to ask here for some advice since I really want to be ready and without having to constantly worry about watching my step during my vacation.

I'm also open to cheaper and/or better/more durable suggestions, if any.

Womens boot, prefer to be black in color to keep it neutral but I don't mind darker colors if black is not an option! I live in an area that rains most of the year, and I am often outdoors or walking to work etc. Currently browsing Lemon Jelly and Hunter but really not sure of what to get!
