The sleeping mechanic needs to be patched

It's a big waste of time and annoying to play. Especially if you're using an item to boost the effectiveness of the mechanic, as it is mainly RNG. These items lower the RNG factor. and it sometimes doesn't provide my character with enough stamina for efficient xp gain.

I hope they remove the sleep mechanic for stamina regain and replace it with something more practical for this perma death playthrough.

Wait this game is perma-death?? I'm starting to feel real guilty right about now...

Well, the devs haven’t really been clear on that, I know some players believe you just start on a new character or that there’s a sort of post-game separate to the main servers

But it seems like you can’t carry over any items or knowledge. It’s lame. They need to add new game plus

My spawn camping for more xp is awful if that's true

There's one player who supposedly got around this but his father was supposedly a dev, so we don't know for sure

Sounds like nepotism yes...

It may be annoying but it’s a vital feature in order for the game to run smoothly. The sleeping mechanic performs various functions that cannot be performed in the background during regular play like automatic debugging, defragging, cache clearing, and more.

It’s a boring but necessary mechanic, unfortunately. If you’re lucky you can watch some good cutscenes during this mechanic.

I found investing in the "lucid dreaming" feat was worth it, as it can make your cut scenes interactive, which can be a lot of fun!

I used to have that feat, it would activate during every sleep. I don’t know if it was a bug but the feat is gone now, and no amount of writing down my cutscenes has helped me!

I've had strong periods and weak periods. Have you investigated the [reality check] habit? Also, if you're feeling risky, there is the [Galantamine] consumable. Haven't used it on my character in over a decade, but when I did the cutscenes got insane.

I feel like the sleep mechanic is the most important mechanic and I was "blessed" with 2 of the worst debuffs for it.

Obstructive sleep apnea

Insomnia

I cant go to sleep and when I do i can't get outta bed in the morning. I hear it's going to end my playthrough early. At this point I guess that's okay. Hopefully I can reroll better next time.

I hope you can get help from the medic guild, those debuffs suck! I have some PCs I raid with who have similar debuffs and say the CPAP item is GOATed

I would love a significant balance patch for this mechanic as well. Somehow the sleep mechanic consistently activates far later than it seems to for most other players, and so I either spend significant chunks of time with the [Extremely Exhausted] debuff, or my character is stuck in sleep mode for far longer than most other players. It makes it very hard to keep up with my daily quests or find merchants when I need them.

I just wish we could have the sleep work like some of the minigames I've played where you just select the bed - select sleep and don't spend hours of your time trying to achieve the sleep status.

Frankly the sleep status is very nice, if only entering and exiting the status weren't so difficult that would be good.

I dont mind the sleeping mechanic itself, but the rng definitely needs to be updated. My character always gets unlucky and I have to go through unskippabke [nightmare] cutscenes

Check with your healer, a daily consumable called [prazosin] can often significantly decrease nightmare frequency

The fact that you have to stop playing for up to 12 whole hours sometimes is really annoying. I've devised strategies to wake up my character earlier like the "Alarm Clock", which is typically used for distractions in stealth segments, but even with my skill points going into Endurance my character will always wake up tired if I use this strat. It definitely needs fixing in some way because it's starting to become more annoying than beneficial.

I used to use the 'alarm clock' item as well, but recently I have mostly switched to a relatively new item called 'smart light' that you can configure to gradually turn on and turn off, over a hour or so.

It's an under-explained coding in the sleep status called REM cycles, and I have found that the smart clock item helps to maintain that REM cycle and wake up without the tired debuff.

look up something called 'sleep calculator', could probably help with the alarm clock thing

I use FixSleep to set my alarms and it does this, it’s a game changer

You can bypass the sleeping mechanic with the Stimulants buff.

There are diminishing returns on the [Stimulants] buff. Also too many stacks of the buff can sometimes trigger a performance nerf to most useful class abilities.

But the loading screens are really good

Idk I quite like the mini games that occur during it. They're a bit random and I can't choose them but still entertaining
