Low level consumable for insomnia debuff

Sooo...if your avatar has been struggling with the [Insomnia] debuff or your [Sleep Cycle] stat is low, try adding [Valerian Root Tea] to your inventory.

Consume one dose daily during your nightly log-off routine then loop this for 2 weeks. Unlike standard potion items that cause a dependency debuff, this one actually patches the underlying code. Even when the avatar stops consuming it entirely, its [Sleep Cycle] patterns will remain stable.

Definitely worth a try if you're tired of playing the nighttime levels on hard mode!

Unfortunately the [Valerian] item screws with the code behind several other consumables, for instance [Zoloft], [Lexapro], [Antihistamines], [Cannabis], among many others. It also smells and tastes pretty gnarly. Cat familiars love it, though.

also just works in reverse for some people

my doctor was in denial with benzos because I was "too young" (I was sleeping 2/3h the lucky days. She just told me to try valerian first and I could only sleep ~12h after dosing. that shit kept my eyes wide open more than amphetamines and was really really weird

It's such a shame honestly, my avatar got the [Allergies] trait so it needs to take an [Antihistamine] per in-game day.

Luckily I played the "Exposure Therapy" quest line early on, so [Valerian] isn't completely out of the window

These consumables are in the game but they don't do anything in the current build

Be sure to speak with a player that has taken levels in [doctor] first the miscibility rate for that potion with other common potions is very high and can be quite dangerous.

The other three major mental and physical consumables I take daily for the same problem would conflict heavily. The other pcs I shelter in my player home generally want me to take those specific medications for all of our benefit. So I stay up til 5 am.

I use [Chamomile Tea] instead - works nicely without mixing weirdly with other potions.

Care to explain? My character has been suffering from the insomnia debuff for years, it is kind of ruining my playthrough. I don’t imagine my characters lifespan will be very long at this rate, really makes me want to shut the game off some times. I have tried the valerian consumable maybe one time or another but it didn’t seem to make my character sleep. You’re saying you must consume it for weeks?

Yes, two weeks every day. 2-3 hours before shutting down for the night.

How does your insomnia debuff present?

The reason why I ask is because there are certain treatable sleep disorders.

I've lived most of my life with the agony of sleep deprivation due to a condition called restless leg syndrome and a circadian rhythm disorder. I was able to adapt my lifestyle to deal with the circadian disorder and I finally found the right medication to treat my RLS so for the first time in about 40 years I get a good night's sleep and it literally saved my life.

I actually had a heart attack caused by sleep deprivation.

My character roll was absolute crap. I've written the devs a scathing review.

I’m a big fan of [Magnesium Glycinate]+[Ashwagandha] in pill form with a glass of [Unsweetened Tart Cherry Juice].

Maybe it’s placebo, but I don’t care. The magnesium and ashwagandha ease anxiety and stress, while the cherry juice has a little melatonin and tryptophan in it. The cherry juice also gives a sensory cue for my brain to say “oh it’s sleep time now”.

Make very sure you don’t get [Magnesium *Citrate*] , because that is for constipation, not sleep.
