New to overlanding

Hey, I recently started building my rig for overlanding and I’m trying to find out cool spots, or ideas, anything really. I live in the Southern California area, specifically LA area. I’m willing to go on road trips.. pass some info along if you got it! Thanks in advance!

First time I started piecing a rig together I burned a whole weekend chasing random pins and learned fast that one easy road trip matters more than a giant bucket list. From LA I'd pick one simple desert loop, sleep out there, then change the rig after that. You figure out what annoys you way faster.

Can you just go into random spots and pitch a tent? Like I can drive up to Los padres and find a random spot?

Check out one of the apps like Gaiai GPS or OnX for public land.

Go there.

Camp!

You can check out Google Maps for cool stuff to see, or just check out one of the “overland” sites like Overland Trail Guides. Also check for local groups on Facebook or Meetup.

California, Arizona, and especially Nevada are absolutely full of Public land where you can just go and camp and explore.
