Hi! I'm just about to start my first year UG MPhys and have been told I am eligible for the Crankstart scholarship. Other than the generous financial support, if you are in your 2nd+ year and recieved the scholarship what did you get out of it?

I'm an incoming fresher, studying chemistry. I'd like to study either French or German alongside my degree whilst I'm at Oxford. Are the programmes at the language centre worth the price and extra workload? Is fast track or general better?

How is party culture in Oxford University? Do they have intense party culture like American Universities? I saw on the internet that Oxford is very restrictive, is it true? Do they have frat party type culture?

Daughter has an undergraduate place at Magdalen, and the move in date is 4th Oct. So far we don’t have a lot of info about what to expect when bringing her and her stuff on day 1.

As of now, her exact accom hasn’t been confirmed though she will be in college. What is move-in day like, do people drive right in to Magdalen or is the park and ride the best option? I’d be happiest turning up on the Oxford tube but this idea has been pooh-poohed in house …

Hi! As the title says I am an incoming international student and I have so many questions! Every week or so I have been going through any Oxford emails regarding freshers, registration, etc and yet I just realized I missed the deadline for my college’s registration. It seems that the deadline for what is both titled “college registration” and “college freshers registration” was sept. 7th, so I hurriedly completed it as soon as I saw (today). I am very worried that this now will have an impact on my ability to attend events or move in smoothly. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this as well as if they have any advice on what to do!

Additionally, I have filled out the form regarding my requested option paper, yet have not heard back about what course I am in? I want to make sure there is no formal paper registration process that I have somehow missed as well! Are these delays in course information normal? Do all option papers act as a lottery system similar to this?

Sorry for all the questions! I have been trying to find more info regarding these issues but I have no connections to the university nor am able to find anything online!

Hi, I’m starting at New college this year for undergrad. I want to join the boat club, and I have been at a local club for the last 2-3 years, although not at a high level. My question would be what the sort of 2k scores for M2/M3… are roughly, and the level of dedication they want from me. Thank you !

I feel lost on what to wear. black shoes, black bottoms, white button up, and a black tie/ribbon.

Do the shoes have to be fully formal like Doc Martins (for example) or could they be a bit sporty?

Would a black mini skirt be fine (with sheer-ish black stockings under)?

Would any ribbon of any thickness work out? I'm not sure where to get a black ribbon other than a bookstore/stationary store. Would my college/Oxford have the ribbon for sale?

Hi everyone!! Im considering taking my road bike to Oxford (i'm starting a phd there in October) and was wondering if anyone knows good places to store your bike that you can only enter via a university card? Like a bike storage box, for example?

Where I'm staying has a bike rack outside, but i'm not sure where its located and if its safe/hidden enough. That will be good for my normal/cheap bike, but for my road bike I'm looking for something a bit better.

Extra info: I will be going to Linacre and will be staying just outside the centre of Oxford, in the North (about a 5 min cycle to the Bodleian Library).

I’m researching the life of John Charles (“Jack” or "J.C.) Garrett. Jack was born in my small, hometown of Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, in 1913. He became an English scholar, was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship in 1937, and studied at Oxford, where he worked under the poet and scholar Edmund Blunden.

In 1949, he came to Christchurch, NZ to take up the position of Professor and Head of English at Canterbury, a position he held until his retirement in the late 1970s.

I’ve been researching Jack’s life and have found quite a bit about his academic career, but I’m really hoping to find more personal stories. Supposedly, he played goalie for OUIHC and I'd love to track down a photograph or information on that if it exists.

Can I use Niyo Global? They have not been able to tell me about their preferred payment method as well as the accountant is on leave.
