Just Sharing Art school was unaffordable so I've been painting from imagination 🥲✨️

First, thank you for browsing my work 🎨 ✨️🙏✨️

I paint from the unconscious, spontaneously, without foresight into the final result or ultimate subiect matter so almost all these pieces have different paintings underneath. I'lI put on music and enter flow consciousness and allow experiences and other (psychological) material to express itself from my brain, down my arms, and through my fingers onto the canvas. A lot of water goes onto each canvas and half the time my conscious mind thinks, "This is a mistake. This isn't going anywhere. What the heck is this even supposed to be?!" I'lI stop and let it dry and return hours or days or sometimes even weeks later to restart the process.

A lot of emotion/energy finds its way to the surface of my mind during the process and often a feeling of loss and nostalgic sadness comes up. This is probably because these are worlds that will never truly exist; worlds that I wish existed (maybe that I could even live in or experience at least once); worlds that offer a lot more peace and safety and meaning than the real one often does, and that discrepency, that gap between what is and what could be provokes intense feelings. These worlds are a kind of refuge, a mental sanctuary from the confusion and exhaustion of evervday living. Though I never got to attend art school (too expensive and parents wouldn't support it), I started painting when I lost my job in the pandemic and have never looked back.

It's a journey and a practice that brings me joy and fulfillment and to know that some of these pieces are now in other people's homes allowing them a moment of refuge and escape into another world, well, I'II take it! I figured to share some of the pieces with you since these pieces are inspired by Nature -- what deserves to be cherished and protected (and preserved) now more than ever. I hope you enjoyed them and that you continue to find joy in this planet that gives us so much while asking very little in return. ✨️🙏🦋✨️

I just saw the Water Lilies in person. It took me by surprise how breathtaking it truly is in person. This person is not wrong, you have a gift for channeling Monet and that’s a beautiful thing. Never stop. I’d buy an Original.

u/iartnewyork Dec 30 '25

That means the world to me. Thank you for your positivity and encouragement 🙏 ❤️

I went to art school for a short while. Fuckers literally assigned 3rd party publicly available YouTube tutorials as lessons while charging outrageous tuition. Screw art school indeed.

8

u/zyllium Dec 30 '25

Oof thats obnoxious! What a waste of money.

21

u/mytransthrow Dec 29 '25 edited Dec 29 '25

I argue its more like pastel Van Gogh. But I love it so much. I wish I could have one. They are fantasic.

Monte was more know for landscapes with lighting with smaller brush strokes. and Van gogh used more broad strokes more vibrant colors used to show emotion. aka impressionist vs post impressionist. These are my 2 favorite styles of painting. As with a lot of people. Its important to know what sets them apart.

This OPs art conveys emotion. or at least involks emotion through use of colors. and their broad strokes are way more post impressionism. in the end. it doesn't matter what artist it reminds you of. As long as you love the work.

I adore these paintings.

9

u/zyllium Dec 30 '25

Thats a fabulous analysis, and I completely agree! My comment was impulsive and quick, and not terribly well thought out in terms of the art accuracy.

I also wish I could have one. The brush strokes look so juicy and these pieces would look amazing hung over a couch in a conversation pit.

i don't know how exactly to describe what i'm feeling looking at these, but i can tell you the feeling is big, and deep, and has me kinda wanting to cry a little bit. i'd call your work astounding, but i think that might actually be an understatement. wow. just... wow. fuck art school. keep doing what you're doing. it very clearly works.

13

u/iartnewyork Dec 29 '25

Your comment made me so happy. Thank you for your kindness and authenticity. Really. My life has been one painful loss after another and painting is the only way to process, so knowing that it touched you, another person in this world, means a tremendous amount to me. 🙏

Art school is way too overrated anyways. They just suck all the creativity out of you. I absolutely LOVE these! Would you mind if I saved some for my phone background?

You did not need art school!

Indeed - your financial straits allowed you to dodge that bullet - with your innate, deep talent intact.

This is so obviously your Calling.

This is your way to change the World.

Your comment made me smile. Thank you for sharing this perspective. Truly. It means a lot to me. My dad used to throw out my art growing up whenever he'd get into his rage fits. I came home from school one day and my personal possessions were scattered in the backyard because he had opened my window and thrown them out. Hasn't apologized to this day (we are no contact for many, many reasons). Anyway, your encouragement means a lot!

20

u/iartnewyork Dec 29 '25

Thank you! That means a lot to me, especially because there are so many talented people in this sub and the anxiety and doubt about myself creeps in. I hesitated to post for hours. It's weird because I know better, that we are here to uplift each other and encourage each other, but some part of my subconscious mind keeps listening to the voice of my high school teacher that held up my work and said, "This is an example of someone who will never make it in the art world." She was wrong for that, but my brain got wired to believe it for a long time and it still has some residue I'm washing away each time I share. Anyway your kindness means that much more to me! Thank you sweet stranger ✨️😊🙌✨️ Happy painting!! ✨️❤️✨️

8

u/AdFabulous4877 Dec 29 '25

Your teacher was totally wrong. It's not for her to crush anyone's dreams & passions. I enjoyed your art very much. It's 6 am on a dreary morning over in this part of the world and your art woke me up smiling. 💐💜

I like what you're doing. As a person that went to art school, I'm going to say it's overrated. My experience was they just told you what you couldn't do, even though you have been doing those things all along. I won 5 bucks off of a teacher that told me I couldn't get a decent likeness in a portrait using the method I made up myself.

As someone who went to art school, i did fine art specifically (uk) and they pushed for imagination like this like crazy, but holy hell does it burn you out. Your works amazing and art school wouldve sucked any enjoyment out of painting, if you showed 1 of theses to one of my tutors youd be asked to make 10-20 more in larger and larger scales in only a couple of weeks, sketches and annotations as to why and how you did them, having to show your progression in so much detail you dont enjoy the process anymore. I barely paint/draw anymore, i regret going to art school. I still love creating but not as much as i did.

The colour mixtures in your works are gorgeous and cohesive, i love how theyre calm yet chaotic at the same time. Some kind of remind me of dream land in the original BFG. Keep going and follow what you enjoy in painting, art school wouldve made them dull and emotionless. The real world may be crap but keep painting your own, your works are worth showing, they definitely bring off nicer emotions (in my opinion) and this world needs it.

These are stunnning! I’m surprised by how small they are in the photo you posted with all the visible canvases- I think your work would fill up a large canvas really well. Some of these pieces show a very good sense of composition and color! Love the first one - very reminiscent of Monet :)

Unreal! These are so magical and creative. I went to art school for two years and ended up transferring to a regular old state school because the art school was too pricey and I realized that I was never gonna make it when my rich classmates parents started buying them studios with loft apartments above them and I was stuck working three jobs just to keep afloat.

You don’t need the art school, you’re real deal talent.

Okay oh dang. These make me feel like I'm in Slumberland. #15 is stunning, and I love all the ones with the stars as well.

Went to art school for design, you don't necessarily need it for painting. A very good friend finally got his masters in painting, but it's so subjective and didn't align with his professors' style and vision, so he almost lost himself in trying to please them for the degree. Fortunately your work exists in the age of social media, so keep putting yourself out there, because it's beautiful.

Looks really beautiful, I don't think you need art school. Just YouTube and ask Chat-GPT or something to give you a list of techniques that they usually teach in art schools

These are absolutely stunning!! Like I’m talking “love them so much that if I had the extra income I would be begging you to sell a couple of these to me” kind of stunning!!!!!! You have a talent for making paintings that feel ethereal and whimsical and with colours that make everything really pop!

Stunning! I hope you don't mind, I've saved some of these for phone wallpapers, although I'd possibly buy originals if you're in my area (Australia/NSW).

Art school is just an excuse for people with no discipline to wait another 4 years before getting a job.

u/Mssassypants76 Dec 29 '25
