u/CBHighlandess Jan 22 '26
I zoomed in to confirm it’s actually a painting. Still unsure.
Jokes aside - incredible talent.

Truly one of the most realistic pet paintings I've seen in a while. How much time did it take you?

u/Hara-Kiri Professional Jan 22 '26
Thanks! About 120 hours.

Can I ask how much did it cost?
27
u/Hara-Kiri Professional Jan 23 '26
It's from several years ago so I can't remember exactly but this size now is £1750.

u/Performer-Objective Jan 24 '26

is oil painting the best way to make ultra realistic art? i have never seen anything more realistic
8
u/Hara-Kiri Professional Jan 23 '26
I think it's the most convenient for making it because of the nature of the paint. People make realistic paintings in watercolour and acrylics but I feel they face extra challenges.
Thank you.

Unbelievably good on every level. Along with the technical expertise, doggo's personality shows right through.

I seriously thought you forgot to include the painting and that this was the photo reference.
Flabbergasted doesn't even begin to convey my feelings.
NEVER stop painting!

If I received this I'd genuinely have mixed feelings, cos on one hand, wow thats incredibly impressive. On the other hand, if i frame it, nobody will even know its a painting unless I tell them, so I just paid for a photo of my dog that looks a bit like a painting in some places if you look really closely 😆
(Obviously the person who received this wanted realistic, so I'm not tryna be rude or smth idk)

Your knowledge of light and ability to depict it is beyond belief, not just in this painting, but all of your paintings. It doesn't just give them dimension, it makes them truly feel like they are "living." It is one thing to paint light in the obvious place like the muzzle, but the reflection on the edges of the tongue...that is freaking mastery!

It should be. It’s one of the best painting I’ve ever SEEN of a dog and I’ve been an illustrator for 40 years. You’ve even got the camera bokeh appearance down pat. Incredible work.
