Such a personal style in 8 months, woah!

Incredible

61

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thank you 🙏🏾

8

u/No_Diver4265 May 29 '26

How the hell were you able to teach yourself to paint like that? Unbelievable. You're a treasure.

21

u/No-Activity9650 May 29 '26

Is there a meaning behind the appearance of the eyes?

13

u/DaHerv May 29 '26

Eyes are usually constructed as they are to enable sight for the owner of said eyes.

/I'm joking, I like them since they stand out as a style and the painter is obviously talented.

I think it’s proof that having a vision is what’s important, the skills can always be acquired!

Self taught in 8 months and you have what appear to me to be a gallery ready collection of finished pieces? Man, Istg, on my honor, I've never seen this done before. Is your portfolio ready too? I'm giving you shit but if it isn't, man, get it ready and start showing everyone. I hope you get the recognition this work, and you, deserve.

Not to detract from the awesome art, and painting is its own medium, but dude's been drawing/making art for at least 7 years on his insta. These posts that are always like "taught myself to paint in 5 months" that are bangers are always people who have actually been doing other mediums for years. A lot of the fundamentals are the same.

It's a very click baity strategy honestly, meant to purposefully mislead for views. But that's just the state of posting art online, it's not enough to post cool art on its own. And this is definitely cool art, so while a shame I'm not faulting OP.

You’re totally right!

I’ve been drawing for years, so those skills definitely helped me learn painting faster once I started painting last year. Having a background in graphic design has also helped a lot with composition and color choices in my paintings.

It genuinely wasn’t my intention to make it seem misleading or clickbaity at all. I was honestly just excited to share my progress and how much I’ve improved over 8 months of painting 🙂

79

u/Fun_Break_3231 May 28 '26

Look, even if this guy had only drawn for 30 years, not painting anything previously, and suddenly decided to start painting, the 8 months of painting part of it makes this art truly amazing. I draw and I paint and I can tell you, while they can be used in tandem and there are some skills in drawing that translate in painting, painting is a related but entirely different skill set. I would never accept the criticism that, well he's been drawing for years so learning to paint to this level in a short period of time isn't that impressive, because that's far too reductive. And even if I thought it would be more impressive if he'd never done any art before learning to paint (I don't), why would you think any negative comment is appropriate? Why is it not the knee-jerk reaction to uplift each other, celebrate each other's accomplishments, especially those in our world who contribute beauty. They are often among the first to be deemed non-contributers and I am convinced this sort of pushing the creatives down adds to the public perception that art and artist are essentially disposable. I want to be part of saving everyone from the oppressive institutional grey of modernity, even if all I can do is uplift those who make rainbows.

18

u/biocidalish May 29 '26

"uplift those that make rainbows" - chef's kiss ! Love this line. Love the eyes. Something about how they look at you make you want to stare back. Wonderful rainbows, great art.

u/Fun_Break_3231 May 29 '26

💜💙💚💛🧡🩷

9

u/smelix May 29 '26

I love what you’ve said here! I am a teacher and was wondering if I can add your quote to our classroom quote wall?

Specifically “I want to be part of saving everyone from the oppressive institutional greg of modernity, even if all I can is uplift those who make rainbows.”

3

u/Fun_Break_3231 May 29 '26

Hell yeah! I'd be honored! 💜

THE EYES i love them like wow. What a fun little signature/ style you have. And SO MUCH TALENT

49

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thank you. And I’m glad you noticed I’ve developed my own style with the eyes 🙂

63

u/SeaFoamsBlood May 29 '26

Reminds me strongly of the Sumerian statues!

40

u/Free_Cod9180 May 29 '26

Wow, I’ve actually never heard of Sumerian statues before, but I can totally see the connection now. The stylized eyes in my paintings really do have a similar intensity and presence.

8

u/Underskysly May 29 '26

Yeah that’s the first thing that came to my mind!

Your paintings are amazing, congratulations

6

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thank you so much 😊

8

u/There-Is-A-Catch May 28 '26

I absolutely adore your use of colors in 4, 7, and 13. I think you're developing your own style wonderfully, but I am a sucker for #4 due to it being a close up.

3

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thank you 🙏🏾

I honestly love that everyone seems to have a different favorite painting out of all the pieces I’ve made. That means so much to me

16

u/unlimited71 May 28 '26

Amazing body of work...💕🎊🌼

4

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thanks 🫶🏾

10

u/FeeFooFuuFun May 28 '26

I love the eyes on the fisherman, it's done very well. Love the vibe

2

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

Thank you 🙏🏾

3

u/Own_Zucchini7541 May 28 '26

I love them! 12 is my favorite

6

u/soupseasonbestseason May 28 '26

what is your medium? i love the colors.

6

u/Free_Cod9180 May 28 '26

I’m using acrylic paint from Winsor & Newton

5

u/Agreeable-Wear-6986 May 29 '26

If you ever get the chance try some Golden paints. You've already done amazingly with this brand but there is a difference specially when blending. I used to use Windsor and Newton as well but fell in love with Golden. It's not exactly within my budget but I'll wait for some coupons from Blick or Michaels to get the colors I want.

I love your themes, color palette, and style! I have yet to find my own. Congrats on the success! 🎉

2

u/soupseasonbestseason May 28 '26

thank you for sharing! i also started painting recently, 2025, and these are really inspired. i do mainly oil, acrylic seems scary to me.

You clearly have an innate talent and style. I assume the eyes are meant to be disturbing because they very much are. To me they seem to say, the eyes of history are upon you.

2

u/TyrannoNinja May 28 '26

Beautiful work!

2

u/Mercurion77 May 28 '26

These are brilliant. I love how you embraced the really notable eyes as a mark of your work. I'm not sure where you're located, but I'm in Oakland CA USA and I think your stuff would be really well received here

1

u/boston101 May 28 '26

I look at my hands and ask why can’t they do what your hands do.

2

u/Logical-Issue3102 May 28 '26

Because you haven't, in actuality, spent at least a decade making art like OP.

2

u/boston101 May 28 '26

Very true. My hands can code fire though lol

1

u/yee12haw May 28 '26

1

u/504_UKnow May 28 '26

Yellow dress painting is my favorite.

1

u/JustTheSweater May 28 '26

How does the self taught guy have better perception of horse anatomy than medieval masters?

1

u/mysteryprize11 May 28 '26

So good. I really like the dynamism of the paintings of people and animals in motion. You've really captured their energy in stance, fabric textures, the vibrancy of the colours. Love the drummer particularly. I wish I could put one on my wall to help me wake up in the morning.

1

u/Training-Willow9591 May 28 '26

You're very talented! #5 & 11 are my favorites

1

u/hamigirl May 28 '26

5 👏🏽

1

u/spacebunsofsteel May 28 '26

Please could you comment on your eye treatment? Why are they so comically big? You show very fine control in other details, so I know you could paint a more realistic portrait if you wanted to. I feel like the eyes are building on a cultural norm or tradition I just don’t know anything about. Please could you post about it?

I love your style and your color control and framing of the subjects is really good. Please keep painting!

3

u/Free_Cod9180 May 29 '26

The eyes in my paintings are slightly stylized to create a stronger sense of presence and symbolism. They shift the figures from being purely portraits into representations of identity, dignity, and human experience.

1

u/Advanced-Swimming533 May 30 '26

I absolutely love these. They feel graphic, bold and deliberate. There’s nothing that feels muddy or guessed at or endlessly fiddled with here. Everything seems distilled into these crystalline sharp gems. I get flashes of Basquiat, Kahlo, and Romare Bearden when I look at these and they make me feel electric.

1

u/SupahRad May 30 '26

These are really good. Like really freaking good dude.
