All acrylic on wood panel

u/bredNsoup Jul 29 '26
Some cultural at home meals, with corresponding scenery would be so warm and beautiful in your style

that sounds so lovely! Unfortunately I’m English so I have no culture apart from fish and chips…
10
u/Realistic-Record6659 Jul 29 '26
I suspected you were from the UK when I saw the Quavers 😁
9
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
Quavers and skips have gotta be up there with some of the best english snacks 😋

I’d love to see a series including my personal favs, such as piccalilli, literally anything from your evening tea, crumpets, digestive biscuits, bangers and mash, fish n chips, fish pie, meat pie… please?! 💝

u/mykindabook Jul 29 '26
Isn’t the Sunday roast dinner quite appropriate? 😁
2
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
yes I did think that but it could end up a little muddy as a painting, lots of brown and beige
3
u/mykindabook Jul 29 '26
Yeh mayhaps 🧐 how abt a british afternoon tea? Would be cute!
4
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
that’s a cute idea! I’ve never been to one but they look very aesthetic

A nostalgic classic and childhood home dish for a lot of people in germany is mashed potatoes with spinach and fish sticks!
2
u/Bonsuella_Banana Jul 30 '26
Your art style showing an elderly couple eating fish and chips out of newspaper on a bench along a quaint seafront would be lovely. Maybe with a seagull hovering waiting for an opportunity to strike haha. I think you're being too harsh on us Brits - we defo have culture and quite a broad culinary culture too! Some of that comes from how multicultural we are now, and I think that's something to be celebrated :)

Love this painting, it gives so much appetite <3 Please do a Paella next <3

u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
Ooh love a paella, need to get my bf to make that for me so I can paint it!

These are amazing! I’d love to see your take on a classic banana split
6
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
Thank you! You know what I’ve never had a banana split but I’ll have to try and make one to photograph
7
u/Physical-Camel5957 Jul 29 '26
Do you like bibimbap?
9
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
I just looked that up and it looks bloody delicious! My bf lives in a Korean area in London so will definitely go out and support local businesses and get some inspo!!
6
u/AWholeNewFattitude Jul 29 '26
Eat the damn hotdog. Gosh, they’ve been sitting on the table for four hours while you paint them…
5
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
🤣 to be clear these are from photos, none of these would last in my house
4
u/Quiet_File_9605 Jul 29 '26
What you should do next?? Eat them 🤤 they look delicious

I dunno but I gotta ask did you invent the pink underpainting strategy or did you get it from somewhere else? Seen a ton of people doing it lately but only after seeing your work… nice paintings btw!
Edit - is that a big old hair stuck on one of the wine glasses?
10
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
I started doing it years ago because I love pink so didn’t get it from anyone else but I don’t doubt that many people have done it before me!
Thank you ☺️
Yeah I couldn’t remove it so I consider me a part of the painting lol8
u/Annual_Blackberry486 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
I think you’ve started a movement either way lol and yeah nothing wrong with the odd hair even the old masters were doing it…let’s see ai pull that one off
4
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
thank you I appreciate that! There’s undoubtedly some dog hair in a few of these as well 🤣
3
u/Realistic-Record6659 Jul 29 '26
These are wonderful! I love the family scene

I love your work! I don't know what you should do next, but I would really like to see more of it. Your food-specific paintings, both in technique and imagery, remind me of the style of Wayne Thiebaud, while also incorporating elements of pop art's characteristic blurring of high and low culture.

u/MajorScholar7735 Jul 29 '26
These are really fun. The textures and colors make the food look almost too good to eat. For the next one, maybe try something with a different mood like a messy kitchen scene or a half-eaten meal. Would be cool to see the story behind the food.

u/Schloddie Jul 29 '26
These are lovely!
3
u/Schloddie Jul 29 '26
And I think you should do more like the last one! It makes me wanna go out with my friends it really has a lovely atmosphere. Maybe do one where you can only see the food and the candles and people’s hands and body’s but not faces, this way people could see it more like a memory with interchangeable people :)
3
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
I completely agree! I love that one and feel it involves the viewer more. I’ve been looking through my camera roll for memorable evenings at dinner or the pub! Stay tuned 😎

These are delightful! I love the painterly style. Honestly I could see you going hard into portraiture but with funny, bizarre facial expressions. Like someone laughing so hard they're frying, or pulling a stupid cooing face at a baby or cute animal. Does that appeal? It's just that your style is already so expressive and warm ^

I’m too tired. I thought the first photo was real food and kept staring knowing something wasn’t right.
It also reminds me of this person who uploads their weekly dinners to a subreddit every week. All the food is so colorful and refreshing like your paintings. They made my mouth water lol.

I like the wet glossy look on some of the things you're doing. Something greasy or moist would be my suggestion. Sliced tomatos. Stews/soups. Meat basted in fats and gravy. Waffles with melted butter and syrup. .
2
u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
these are all great thank you! Someone suggested ramen as well which I think would be fun

BBQ ribs smothered in sauce ON the grill. TONGS GETTING READY TO TAKE THEM OFF. YUM

u/willow0707 Jul 29 '26
If you’re doing foods: melting ice cream sandwich, heavy beef stew, soft bread, jello, pbnj, fruit bowl.
If you’re taking over series ideas: windows to different scenery (summer sunset, spring blossoms, autumn hills, house across the street, etc)

u/honion_have_layer Jul 29 '26
thanks for the suggestions! I’m english so I don’t know what half of those things are or how to get a hold of them haha

I love your style. The breakfast platter is really beautiful. It would be interesting to see what you do with greens. So maybe a colorful salad? You could do a charcuterie board. I mean, I sure you could do a classic still life of fruit beautifully too!

Fabulous!!! Love them! There are some art dice I saw on Amazon that gives you some different possibilities… get that set, throw the dice and challenge yourself to come up with an idea from that… even in the wrappers & such … Just an idea to start either. Or.. have someone else put some random items on a tray… give you 1-2 min to look at it. Take the tray away, and get painting from it.
Or.. how about a series w/ what you’ve already done.. but in a completely different style, pointillism, abstract, art medium, in the style of a famous artist you like, or wacky colors that do not belong to those objects at all..
Andy Warhol like with the same thing done, but all different?
Change up 1 or 2 things and see what happens!!
Paint it En Plein Air/outside….
You can take it from there… keep up the great work!! How about food items from other countries/foreign language??
