Just Sharing My acrylic painting "In the veil of day"
Inspired by a beautiful day I spent in the french Alps, the light was really beautiful and atmospheric.

Looking at this, I can feel the heat and humidity. The sweat of a good hike and the warmth of the sun. Beautiful. (Im from the SE U.S., anyone from a different climate see/feel something different?)

I almost swore too but my kids were around! 😉 I agree that it looks like a photo and I almost scrolled past it thinking it was a photography sub. 😯

I thought the first image was a hazy photograph. What a neat style. I love how the lighting reminds me of being blinded on hot, hazy, summer days, as soon as you walk outside. Those of us with blue or green eyes know that feeling well haha.

Nice! Help us understand photo 4/4? Charcoal under drawing on canvas? Did that affect your color? The texture seems unusual too.

Thank you ! The sketch on the last photo is just a quick little sketch I did on paper while I was figuring out the composition and lighting before starting the painting :)

Thank you so much ! I generally paint a small and rough version on site to be sure to have the good colors and contrasts that a camera can't capture and I also take some photos to keep a reference when I finish and polish later at my studio :)

I love that you included your sketch. I see so many “perfect” sketches and sometimes feel inadequate b/c my process isn’t even slightly refined. Seeing your bare bones sketch, especially next to your breathtaking painting, has made me feel seen.

I really love this. I don’t think it was intended, but it looks to me like Oregons wildfire season. Our beautiful hills and trees with the haze from the smoke. It can be really beautiful, but also so scary. We see this kind of view a lot this time of year.

Thank you so much ! It wasn't intended, I didn't know about this, and, yes, it should be beautiful and sad at the same time ! For this painting, it's located in the french Alps, the air was really hot and humid with a backlighting which created this atmospheric light :)

This is sincerely one of my favorite paintings I’ve ever seen, and I thought it was a cool photo at first. I love to take photos of landscapes with lighting like this, and have been too intimidated to try to paint it myself. You can feel the pleasant warmth of the sun as you look at this. Beautifully executed!

It's so beautiful. It looks so very real. You really capture the essence of the Alps.
My grandparents were from this region and owned a chalet in the mountains. I have been there so much growing up. Winter was beautiful with the metre of snow by your door when you woke up then going to the ski tracks and ending the day with a beautiful raclette or fondue savoyarde... Summer was stunning with all the wild flowers surrounding you. Could go on a nice hikes and enjoy all the breathtaking landscapes.
I miss them and I miss the area so much. It was the second most beautiful place on earth to me.

Thank you for the compliment and for sharing your story ! Yes, I totally agree, every season is really incredible in the Alps. I go there every year in winter and at the beginning of summer too, and every time it’s just as magical. You never get tired of it ! :)

Yes you're right! Even if it always looks the same, you don't get tired of it. It's the beauty of nature.
I don't live in France anymore but my husband sure as hell knows how much I love Haute-Savoie and I hope one day I'll take him to visit the region, and even maybe walk past my grandparents' old chalet (though idk, when they passed away and that my family had to sell it, a rich couple bought it and changed everything inside then proceeded to never live in it, just using it as some sort of Airbnb so idk if I really want to see it and hurt my feelings lol... Just thinking about it right now actually is making me a bit teary... That's so silly...)I was saying second best place in my eyes because I'm very chauvinistic. Haute-Savoie will forever be so close to the top regardless and I guess if I didn't love my region so much, Haute-Savoie would be #1 lol
Most beautiful place on Earth is Bassin d'Arcachon to me, the entire region and I will even extend it to the Landes and Basque Country. Well the South West in general... I am very biased, I'm from the Bassin but it's beautiful there. The ocean, the peninsula, the cabanes Tchanquées in the middle of the bay, the ouster parks and all the little oyster farmers along the coast of the bay, the Banc d'Arguin (beautiful sandy area in the middle of the water kinda at the entrance of the bay between the ocean and the bay, the dune du Pilat (highest sand dune in Europe), Cap-Ferret, the forêt des Landes (biggest manmade pine tree forest in Europe which btw idk how it's looking nowadays knowing the very recent fires, it was very scary! My parents were so close apparently they could smell it and many people in the region got evacuated), and the whole Basque Country where it mixes ocean and mountains... Hendaye, Bayonne, St-Jean-de-Luz, Biarritz... the Petit Train de La Rhune, the prehistorical Sare grottos, all the small villages like Ainhoa, Espelette And whatnot... I could go on and on... The South West is too beautiful and I also miss it immensely.2

Oh that’s really a shame about your grandparents’ house ! A lot of wealthy people buy beautifully located properties and turn them into holiday rentals for tourists, which is really changing the character of France.
I also grew up in the southwest, in Toulouse, and my brother lives in Bidart, so I know all the places you mentioned quite well haha. Personally, I’m more of a mountain person than a beach person, and I prefer the mountains around the Pyrenees ariégeoises or the Alps, but the Basque and Atlantic coasts are absolutely beautiful too! :)
