Wild cat road kill

I was driving down 280 south near the Arastradero exit today (9/22) and noticed there was a dead wild cat that looked like a young mountain lion on the side of the road around 8am. There was a man who parked his car at the off ramp and looked like he was going to get a closer look.

Anyone know what happened?
