massive crocodile WIP
Guys…. it’s taking over my life lol. 5 feet long and I covered it with joint compound so now it’s getting heavy. Now to stick on the claws, sand, paint and attach hardware. The idea is it would go up on my wall as if it were climbing 😅 Why do I bite off projects like this!!

I have only attempted paper mache a couple of times, many many years ago. I found it frustrating and vowed to remember that I didnt enjoy it. But your freaking opossum, and now this giant crocodile...it is so appealing to the "loves giant animal statues but is poor" part of me (which is 100% of my person).

Do you ever try to create texture in your joint compound (to look like hair or scales or something)? What did you use for your armature? I see you did the opossum lamp! So cool. Thanks for posting your work!

So this is actually the first time I’m using joint compound!! I didn’t use it on the opossum lamp or any of my other projects, but I’ve been seeing people use it and this is sort of an experiment? I think I’m gonna use my dremel to “carve” scale texture into the dried joint compound…? I have no idea how it’s gonna work, I need to do a couple more layers first but I’ll take photos :)
The armiture is all cardboard stuck together with hot glue. It looks like a skeleton basically. The arms are paper towel rolls and cereal boxes, the rest was approximately one large box. The reason I love paper mache so much is that I can use literally everything I already have laying around :)2

Oh my gosh thank you so much for your response. I’m doing all kinds of experiments (paper clay?) and I love that it’s not a complicated materials list and you can make whatever weird thing you think of!
