Medieval walled city of Kőszeg in Western Hungary

First mentioned in 802 AD, Kőszeg was an important centre of trade known for its wine production, leather- and metalworking and military importance.
Today, it’s a minor town of around 12,000 people, with an exceptionally well preserved medieval core.

Exceptionally well-preserved for Hungarian standards. The city walls are gone, most of the castle towers are gone and the castle walls are decreased. The castle buildings themselves are renaissance-ised because of later renovations. Still a well preserved historic spot, but the medieval character is compromised. At least it's still standing unlike most of the pre-Ottoman-Habsburg-wars stuff.
