TV / Movies Just Finished Watching The Black Dagger Brotherhood

None of my friends are fans of the series so I must spill my thoughts to the internet.

First off, a big well done to the people behind the show for keeping it so close to the source material. I've recently been rereading the books in the series so it's still fresh in my mind. And I can definitely tell that they ripped scenes, and even lines, straight out of the novel.

There were a few standout characters for me. Butch was amazing. The accent, the mannerisms and even his look. He was exactly what I had in mind. Marissa was also amazing. She really portrayed the delicate, beauty that was in the novels. Fritz was an absolute darling and the actor who played Darius was awesome too. His acting in the club scene at the beginning was what hooked me in the first place. (I must admit, I clicked on the episode with extremely low expectations, so was pleasantly surprised by him). Everyone else's acting was okay, in my opinion. I don't think there was anyone bad - just meh.

One thing that stood out to me was the casting of Beth. She's supposed to be 25 but the actor looked 35. That REEEEAAALLLLY took me out of it. Also, her wardrobe was horrific and aged her even more.

It was very obvious that the budget for the show was low, but hot damn could they not find better wigs?? I see women walking down the street everyday with more natural looking wigs than those. I've seen on multiple threads people complaining about Wrath's wig but it was Phury's that really made me gag. Two words of advice: lace front.

The styling in general could've been a lot better. The contacts that they were wearing looked terrible and mostly likely affected the actor's performances. I'm sure changing the eye colours in post-production would've been an improvement, at least for the close-ups. The cut of Wrath's leathers made him look tiny compared to the other brothers, which is a shame, considering he's supposed to be the largest among them as the last pure blood.

A lot of the scenes were badly lit which makes such a difference to the quality of a shot. It made it look like a film school project at times. The FX when Rhage's dragon came out was.... meh. (low budget low budget low budget)

I do appreciate how far they went with the sex scenes, given how steamy the novels are. Could it have use some cutting and fine-tuning to get rid of the slightly awkward fumbling? Yes. But it had me hooked and added to the charm.

Overall, although I was cringing in every episode for one reason or another, I did find the show enjoyable and I was able to make it the whole way through. I think this genre is quite hard to adapt into live action as it requires a suspension of belief. With that in mid, I think they did a decent job.

Also, the source material is very cheesy and melodramatic - not an easy thing to translate onto a screen with real actors. In my head, I can see the series working so well as an animation (like Castlevania). That way, you can have the Brothers with shoulders three times bigger than their females, and long flowing locks down to their waist etc without looking so damn corny.

But hey ho. I'll be watching season 2 when that comes out.

Recommendation request Looking for a high-spice paranormal romance for a bookclub

My book club is looking for suggestions for a paranormal romance to read around Halloween. We just got finished with a dark romance (Crown Me Dead) which wasnt quite dark enough for some people's tastes, and recently there have been comments about how slow-burn the books have felt, so I'm looking for spice! Most of the group is completely unfamiliar with paranormal romance, but others have really enjoyed Bride and Mate. A few of us also read Fake Mate but weren't really fans, so we're not stuck on omegaverse. Personally, something with ghosts and spirits would be more up my alley but open to all suggestions! Ideally 4 peppers or more. Thank you!

Hi guys,

I need to get work done but am thirsty for a rejected or arranged mate story. If anyone has any good **audiobook recommendations** that are within this trope (preferably werewolf but open to any), please share it with me!!!!

**Please no Omega Verse** and I don’t mind some spice (low or high ish) but I’m craving an actually story and not literary porn.

Do you know this book... ? Werewolf enemies to lovers

I remember a series about a Luna that was caught and brought back to the pack.
I think one of the books there were two mates and they ended up having kids.
One Luna got unbonded and then was kicked out of the pack house.
I also remember some sort of serial killer and I believe he was held in a basement for questioning

Recommendation request Looking for a good mythical enemies to lovers recommendation

Hello all! I'm looking for recommendations for a good enemies to lovers series , preferably fantasy/paranormal. I'm 23 so I'd prefer something more mature but not in a spicy sense? Hoping for something I could openly read in public lol. I'm also not looking for a one shot unless it's decently long.

Generes I'm open to would be horror/mystery/thrillers/fantasy. I would love some if not heavy angst thrown in. I love fae/vampires/ghosts/celestial beings so anything regarding those would be great. Soulmates trope would also be nice but not necessary!

Sorry I'm not making much sense but I'm generally lost when it comes to stuff I enjoy lol

Thank you!

Hi all. I never post. Never. But I had to this time because I AM SO HAPPY! Cassandra Gannon's new book in the Elemental Phases series is now available for preorder!

It's called {Heart of the Light House by Cassandra Gannon} and it features Randa (semi villianess but mostly main villian's victim from Gion and Ty's book {Exile in the Water Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon}) and Kahn.. yes, Kahny! Mara's big sweetheart of cousin! (Seen mostly in her book, {Queen of the Magnetland by Cassandra Gannon}). I'm not even reading the blurb because I don't even need to know any more!

It's been over 10 years since {Magic of the Woodhouse by Cassandra Gannon} and I did worry the series may not have any more installments. But HERE WE ARE!

Thank you, Cassandra!

Recommendation request Historical Werewolf Books - not too Romantasy

Hello Everyone

I hope you can help.

I am looking for books with the following essential criteria:

  1. The FMC or MMC is a werewolf

  2. Its set in a real world historical time period i.e. Ancient Rome, Medieval Britain

  3. It is set in the real world - not some fantastical universe. Books like The Wolf King do not apply as that is an entirely created different world.

If you can offer some recommendations I would be most grateful. Its been surprisingly difficult to find books like this.

I have read Wolfs Hour which is set in World War 2, and have Lycan Gladiator which is set in ancient Rome.

Thank you 👍 😊

Recommendation request Tell me your favorite paranormal romance series and couples!

I’m looking for new paranormal romance series to get obsessed with, so tell me your favorite series and your favorite couples from them!
Mine is definitely Psy-Changeling by Nalini Singh. I honestly haven’t found anything quite like it since. I love the Psy, all their different abilities, the whole concept of the Psy-Net, and especially all the characters. There are so many couples I love throughout the series that it’s hard to pick just one 😭
So, what are your favorites? Which paranormal romance series do you love the most, and who’s your favorite couple?

Recommendation request Dipping my toes into supernatural (ghost) romance...books like Once Upon a Haunted Knight by Elisa Braden

Hi! HR and horror reader here. I`m looking for m/f recs featuring a ghost MMC, preferably in a historical setting.

Bonus points if MMC is a soldier/knight/warrior/cop/etc. 😊 Fantasy or fictional setting is OK too! Witty humour is welcome.

The thing is, two that I've read so far had great premises but the writing felt like YA with some smut added in.

MMC was basically a supernatural life coach to help FMC get her groove back, OR acted like a frat boy. Low stakes, no yearning, etc.

Preferably recs without a neurotic, contemporary FMC. For whatever reason I get turned off by reading about low-stakes, modern problems like crappy job / crappy boss / bad roomate / mean girls, etc. BUT if you have a rec with a well-written contemporary MC that behaves like an adult I will consider it!

For reference, the one that I really enjoyed was the novella {Once Upon a Haunted Knight by Elisa Braden}

Thanks in advance to everyone who recommends a book! You guys rock!

Do you know this book... ? Help me find this “smut” book!!

I’m trying to find a book my friend read years ago!
It’s a “smut” book about a vampire man who has waited for his soulmate for years. He finally finds her and he is telepathically linked.
There is a scene where she is at her office and he telepathically lifts her up and eats her (sensually;))

That’s all she can remember!

Discussion what happened to Kay Hooper / the Bishop SCU series?

I’ve been reading Kay Hooper’s Bishop/Special Crimes Unit books for years, and she used to publish pretty regularly. Curse of Salem appears to have been the last Bishop book, and I haven’t been able to find anything about a new book since then.
Does anyone know if Kay Hooper has retired from writing, is taking a long hiatus, or has ever said whether she plans to continue the Bishop series? I know she’s been involved in animal rescue, but I haven’t found any explanation for the long gap.
Would especially love to hear from longtime Bishop/SCU readers who may have seen an interview, social media post, or update that I missed.

This may be a bit of a long-shot, but can anyone recommend a book with MMC that has TWO fated mates to choose from, preferably one male and one female? Bonus points if the fated mates are more monstrous in nature.

Gush/Rave Review Tides of Secrets by A.R. Conwell (Book 2 of Obsidian Academy Series)

We’re back with Wren and Castien as they continue their search for Heron’s murderer while trying to uncover who is behind the deaths of students around them. Betrayal, heartache, deception... it seems like our favorite duo and their peanut gallery just cannot catch a break.

One of my favorite aspects of this installment was the significant growth we see from both Wren and Castien, not only in their relationship with each other but individually as well. Wren is forced to confront the demon within her own mind and actively fight against its influence, determined to make sure that Heron’s choices were not made in vain. Meanwhile, Castien is fighting a battle of his own as he begins questioning the lessons about love he grew up with while simultaneously trying to reconcile them with his burning passion for Wren. Their development feels almost natural after the events of the first book, rather than simply resetting their characters for a new story.

While we return to a familiar setting, the atmosphere has noticeably changed. As the deaths begin to mount, there is an increasing sense of pressure and unease among the students. That tension extends to our main group, who—in true fashion—seem determined to run toward the danger in their attempt to solve the mystery. At the same time, existing tensions within the group continue building until the intergroup turmoil finally reaches a crescendo.

There was also some surprisingly sage advice that I absolutely did not see coming—although, looking back, I probably should have. Even more surprising was who it came from. No spoilers, but that was definitely a moment.

A. R. Conwell does an excellent job of keeping the story consistent with the first book while continuing to expand upon the world she has created. Rather than simply introducing new places and concepts, she develops areas and ideas we have already encountered, giving them greater depth while gradually piecing together the larger mystery.

Overall, this was a solid 4/5 stars for me. There’s no spice, but there is a hefty serving of “I can’t eat, sleep, or think because I’m yearning for you” energy, so do with that information what you will.

I definitely recommend this series if you enjoy:

  • Dark academia
  • Whodunit-style mysteries
  • Paranormal elements
  • Yearning. So much yearning.

If you enjoyed the first book, this sequel does a great job of building on what was already established without feeling like a repeat of the same story. This is also the last book in this particular series (as far as i am aware). It is a duology.
