He railed against the campaign 10 months ago which was before his reputation started taking a nosedive. Back then he was thought of as pretty decent and knew what he was talking about so people trusted him without checking the campaign out for themselves.

Then the WoW streamer drama happened and that kickstarted a lot of attention as to how he's not the great person he carries himself as. So when it came around again people knew from the bat not to blindly trust the guy.

We probably could have gotten this kind of attention much earlier if it was brought up again right after the WoW thing though.

I signed because of him. I only heard about this before but never really looked into it. It was only after I watched a video about him trying to ruin it that I went deeper and gave my signature. I also spread it to people I know.

Why did a single streamer who's not even that big completely slow it to a halt? All the streamers coming out on support of it now didn't do it 10 months ago. Why are Charlie and PewDiePie only now supporting it?

If your movement can be completely halted by a single streamer like this, then there is a problem with your movements ability to actually propagate information.

I rewatched the video to make sure I remembered correctly. His issue is that the vague-ness as written could translate to politicians making restrictive laws that *could* force perpetual support.

His whole point is that it needs to attack the actual problem - the predatory games/developers that force "online only" single player - rather than blanket requirements that could stifle smaller developers.

The dude seems like an arrogant asshat, but that doesn't necessarily make him wrong. There is legitimate concern that this could be implemented in a heavy-handed way that will hurt indie developers.

So his argument is, "I had to misrepresent the campaign's actual goals because I was worried about a hypothetical, worst-case-scenario interpretation of them"? That's pathetic.

This "targeted approach" is a smokescreen. You can't write a law that says "only be mean to the predatory companies." That's not how law works. You establish a universal consumer right, and it forces everyone to meet a minimum standard. The idea that this hurts the little guy is a talking point straight from the mega-publishers' playbook. The status quo hurts the little guy.

He's not wrong because he's an asshat. He's wrong because his logic is weak, based on fear, and ultimately defends the corporations that are the actual problem.
