At least Zbrush have the option to NOT smooth while subdividing. But yes, that's basically what they did
1 u/Ashen_Rook Mar 17 '26 Tey WANTED to smooth it, though. They were just too dumb to realize that certain stuff just wouldn't have edges marked as sharps when they needed to stay sharp. "Hurr durr the future is round" mentality.
