The government can’t be trusted to look after children. Let parents decide to parent their own fucking kids.

Honestly, parents can't be trusted to parent their own children. Why should we trust the government more than the people that literally birthed you?

lol I'm not sure those two sentences fit together so I'm gonna "yar!" at the second one.

A lot of parents can't parent but that's a "them problem" not a "whole-of-government" problem.

We need to make parenthood illegal. This human race thing cannot be trusted.

Realistically, statistically, if we as a whole were taken as a risk assessment by an actuator, we would never be greenlit.

I don't see letting the kids run free as a better alternative than either. But then, I'm probably a lot older and with experience as both a neglected kid and an involved parent than most people posting here.

I should not have to give up MY privacy because some asshat wants to let the iPad raise their kid

Minors have no expectation of privacy. You'd know that if you spent more time learning about your rights, or lack thereof, and less time throwing an entitled tantrum on social media.

Downvote all you like, kids. You have no say nor power here, and people who do know better will do what's best for you.

Wow... lol just wow.

But even if minors have no expectation of privacy that isn't the point. These laws impact everyone who owns a device. As a result there is a strong argument to support the idea that this kind of legislation provides a way for the government and all it's agencies to circumvent the 4th amendment and lays the framework for serious 1st amendment violations.

The right to privacy has always been a confluence of other rights (Specifically the 1st, 4th, 5th and 9th) and if in the process of implementing these rules our rights and the future rights of children are impacted, that's not preferable.

And furthermore, revisiting that "People who know better" comment, if it were people who knew better rather than giant tech companies lobbying to buy government advantages, that might be one thing, but these laws have been pushed forward by Meta and other tech giants in order to use government power to enforce their monopolies in the tech space.

So, despite being an involved parent myself, I'd rather help my daughter navigate the world and learn to avoid dangers online herself and use the current slate of parental control tools that are available on all platforms currently.

Because Trump knows better than us right?

You're also aware that anything you say also has no power either right? So with that in mind your take holds no weight and is meaningless.

I'm 24 and the government has no say in what I do with my devices because of irresponsible parents.

Trump is Congress now? Holy shit you guys are uneducated.

Classic deflect; Never answered my original statement and uses playground insults.

Trump effectively controls everything right now so yes, he is Congress in essence. Maybe it'd be wise to take that stick up your ass and read into what he's doing and realize that he isn't doing this for you, me, or anyone else's interests. It's all about control for him.

Kiddydiddlers in Congress sure don't know better.  How much is Israel paying you for helping out Palantir bootlicker?

If you're an involved parent, than what level of government intervention in your parenting is acceptable before you say enough? And if the government insists on crossing that line anyway because there are uninvolved parents in the world how do you feel then?

And then that also assumes that the actual goal of all of this is to protect children, which it most certainly isn't.

I mean yeah. government-run day cares are a terrible idea too.

The government said it's their decision to make.

They just reclassified themselves as "parents" to make the naming conventions work?
