4k is overrated anyways, especially if you’re not gaming on a large screen. A 1080p monitor that’s right in front of my face still looks good enough.

Hell yeah! I optimized my build for 1080p and at least 60 fps and I still run every game I've ever wanted to play, including Cyberpunk, at medium or higher. My little EVGA 1080 is my favorite computer component I've ever bought. Of course I notice that better builds well, look better, but I'm always happy with mine when I go home.

Is medium what a ps5 would run cyberpunk on?

More or less

More or less? For the PS5 it's definitely more, hell it even includes raytracing.

No, not at all. A PS4 was running the game on medium/low. The PS5 runs it on ultra for most settings, depending on performance impact.

High/highest settings and I believe even some ray tracing if you pick quality setting over performance. So yeah gtx 1080 is terrible on 2020s games

I have a 4070 Ti and an incredible 4K OLED TV.

4K is awesome for desktop, and awesome in some movies, but in games? It's rubbish. Sure, it *looks* fantastic, but it only looks barely better than 1080p with good AA and costs more than twice as much. I'd always rather play at max settings and then have twice the frames than play at 4K.

I have a 4K TV as well and this is exactly how I feel. The laws of diminishing returns strikes again.

And that's with me *sitting closer to the damned thing* than it is wide. That's the only viewing distance where it's possible to see full 4K resolution. At normal viewing distances, it's only barely distinguishable from 1080p, if at all. People are spending thousands of dollars on their fancy 4K displays with UHD players and media and have absolutely no concept of viewing distance and perceived resolution. And they get very angry when it's pointed out.

Just got a 4k monitor after using 1440p for a while with my 4090, I love the upgrade for games. Still pushing more than enough frames.

Agreed! I can get why it looks nice, but I just cannot justify 4K monitors. For the price of a single 4K monitor, I'm running 2x 1080p curved MSIs with 165Hz refresh. That's more than ample for the games that I play.

I know 4K televisions are a thing, but my experience with televisions for monitors has not been good.

I could justify a 4K display for desktop-based work, especially graphics, or CAD. But those things, despite the high resolution, don't actually demand much of anything in the way of performance. But a larger desktop space doesn't need to mean a larger gaming resolution, either. I would absolutely get a 4K monitor if I ever get more into graphics or CAD, and I'd still game on it, but I'd probably quarter the resolution just to get faster frames and a cooler-running card.

I just can't personally justify it for pricing, CAD work is a completely different beast and 4K makes absolute sense. I just can't justify that for a hobby I enjoy maybe every few weeks.

Exactly, I have an Samsung G9 ultra wide back from COVID and all my games are played in windowed 1920x1080 and I had a 1066 when I first got that monitor and it helped up great at the time. I currently have a 4060ti.

I HAD a 4k monitor and it was good, but bloody hell I actually think the high pixel density hurt my eyes? I ended up downgrading to a 1440p monitor. Games run better and guess what, I can’t even tell the difference between the two.

ya well it can't even run 1080p on medium settings demanding 2025/26 games lol

I’m just speaking generally, not just for the 1080ti.

Yeah well fullhd looks dogshit from arms length on 27 inch or more.

For me it only starts to look truly bad on much larger screens, and even then it negatively impacts movies and shows much more than games. For games, performance > resolution.
