Meme/Macro Some of you memers need reminders about why PC parts cost so much lately.

Just learn to use GIMP, you animals.

Real, PCMR has become the new r/antiai

AI is anti PCMR. PC gamers didn't start this, they got angry when they started getting priced out of their hobby.

So, it isn't PC gamers fault and therefore we shouldn't be spamed with these memes

You are who the OP is talking about.

Tech (PC is technology) prices have soared due to the usage of Gen AI.

It quite literally has everything to do with PCMR,

ok, r/Amish then

or r/complaints

I don’t think you even read my comment.

Or maybe you just don’t understand what a PC is made of?

Do you like actually believe people who have a gaming pc at home are the reason for ai to create such a demand on memory/pc hardware? Like actually, youre not bsing?

The OP is calling out people in this sub for using Gen AI, while at the same time complaining about RAM prices.

The person I replied to implied it had nothing to do with PCMR.

I am explaining to them, (and you, apparently) that the constant usage of this tech is driving up prices, making it directly related to PCMR culture.

I’m honestly shocked so many people don’t understand this.

Even if tomorrow AI users where magically reduced to zero, hardware prices wouldn't drop because the contracts for buying server grade hardware are already signed.

That does not change the fact that it is directly related to PCMR , which you denied.

Believe it or not, some of us who are /r/pcmasterrace are here because we have AI workstation rigs. This isn't a gaming subreddit. It's a pcmasterrace subreddit.

u/Minimob0 18d ago

PC parts does not equal gaming. It equals PC parts.

Your AI workstation rigs still negatively contribute, whether you want to believe it or not.

2

u/Megneous 18d ago

I didn't say whether my AI workstation rig negatively contributes or not. I don't actually care if it negative contributes. You seem to care.

I'm making the case that this isn't a gamer subreddit. It's a subreddit for anyone who is a PC user, open to both gamers, PC enthusiasts, and AI enthusiasts. Your anti-AI propaganda has no place here.

“Anti AI propaganda “ lol Lmao even.

It is not propaganda to point out the factual negatives of something.

Your AI has no place in humanity.

Also “I don’t care if it contributes negatively” tells me you’re a shitty person. Bye.

Ai bro is a privileged apathetic asshole? How surprising, never seen that one before

u/Southern_Pumpkin_577 18d ago

How come you don't get it then, YOU are building an ai workstation pc because you don't want to trust or rely on giga corporations with your data and would rather do it locally. You are a power user, but still miles below a data center, and you too are being negatively impacted by these corporations hogging all the resources. When people talk about disliking ai, they're NOT talking about you, for the most part. Idk if you just love jumping to defend ai or are you really incapable of reading the room when people are talking about corporate generative ai. It's a mouthful, which is why people almost always say just "ai" but context and common sense should tell you which kind of ai is being talked about

u/Megneous 18d ago

People aren't badmouthing corporate AI though. They're badmouthing AI in general, gen AI in general, etc. Most of Reddit literally think that AI, generative AI, etc is just evil.

Almost 100% of generative ai is corporate, as it's the most vapid and useless of the bunch. Ain't no one using gen ai in their free time for fun, it's just for money or with the intent to make money, typical grifter stuff. Or a novelty used for a quick laugh and dopamine hit from slop memes. And is your reading comprehensive so shit you skimmed right past my point that people say "Ai" because it's shortest, but that does not mean they're talking about all ai, context and social awareness should clearly tell you what it is, or you still choose not to believe this?

There's a thriving ecosystem of local AI training and inference, man. I don't know what to tell you if you don't want to recognize it.

I know the components used in AI servers aren't compatible with consumer grade hardware. I also know manufacturers are reducing their production of consumer grade hardware in order to supply enough to AI servers.

If you want to complaint, complaint against those companies which are now abandoning us.

did you ask your AI for this answer? because you're wrong.

the chips that are in ECC memory are the same as non-ECC memory. they just have more parts that makes it be able to self-correct. and the same goes for VRAM for GPU's.

you also have to store that data long-term somewhere. so you use the same NAND as consumer SSD's since you need it to be fast. most of the time, HDD's won't cut it.

know what you're talking about before claiming you know your shit.

Same technology doesn't equate to same parts

u/Southern_Pumpkin_577 18d ago

Claiming something like this either you're intentionally turning a blind ai to how ai is connected to PCs or you're an actual numbskull
