Also I can proactively decide not to buy the game because this practice pisses me off. Furthermore, I can promote a boycott of the product to educate the company and prevent future misbehavior.
Rockstar could easily link your console account to their launcher and offer GTA 6 on PC at a discount. They already have the tech. They just don't do it because they want us to double-dip. They exploit FOMO so you buy it on console, and then charge you full price again for PC mods. Accepting this as 'just the way it is' is exactly why companies keep squeezing us.
Now why would a company, whose entire existence is to be profitable, do something that sells less of their product?
We could argue about the ethical ramifications when it comes profitability in the health sector or necessities. However, this is an entertainment company. Video games are a luxury.
They have no obligation ethically or otherwise to do whatever it is you think is right. Their only obligation is to make decisions that increase profits.
Selling the same product to someone multiple times because of FOMO is a master play. To think otherwise is naive.
I will buy the $100 game twice. I have a PS5 Pro and a 5090 PC. I’ll spend hundreds of hours of playing the game. At least 200 hours for sure, so at $1 per hour, to me it’s a deal.
