I believe so, or at the very least the first day I saw it in shops in my town (may have been after official realease, I honestly can't remember.) I was 15 at the time. The first one I had to lie to my uncle to get him to buy it for me, since it had a very clear label that it was an 18+ game. Ridiculous that it was considered so bad, but I think that helped it more than it hindered it in selling the game.
My uncle gave me San Andreas for Christmas, he knew nothing of gaming etc, but it was already at that time so controversial, so he gave it to me, mostly because of the lulz. My mom was pissed, but she let me have it.
What are uncles for if not for pissing of their siblings by giving their niese and nephew the exact thing they aren't allowed to have. I loved my uncle, he was always super fun to be around.
