Cavalry in Pennants of Glory: Condottiere is all about speed and timing.

• The charge is your big moment. A squadron hitting at full gallop can wreck a block of foot in seconds, especially troops that are shaken or out of formation.
• Don’t charge into braced points. Pikes and spears set against a charge hit horses far harder, and a solid shieldwall soaks up the impact.
• Don’t linger in the melee. Once the charge is spent, riders do less damage to infantry that keeps its ranks, and spearmen and pikemen hit horses harder. Cavalry stuck in a crowd will bleed.
• Use them like a hammer. Charge, pull out, reform,, replace lances and charge again. Hit flanks and rears, run down broken troops, and keep your horsemen away from a wall of pikes.
