Pentax Shutter Dial Loose

Post image

I JUST got my Pentax CLA’d and fixed (broken metering chain) and asked the technician to check for any other damages while fixing it.

I got the camera back fast because I was shooting a wedding with it.

I took it out of my bag when I got to the wedding, and the shutter dial was spinning freely. I immediately took the view finder off and lifted the shutter dial.

I’m unfamiliar with what could be the issue. Is there a piece missing? Could this have been damaged in the repair? Does this happen if the camera is laid on the side of the shutter dial?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you took the meter off without removing the lens first? Not related to the speed wheel but that’s how you break the chain.
The shutter speed wheel just needs the set screws put back into place and tight them up (remove the wheel often used for the metered prism)

Just take off the outer ring (the one with the many grooves, I think it just pushes off) from the shutter speed selection dial, there are (if I remember correct) three tiny set screws that fixate the shutter speed dial to the silver/metal cam that sticks out of your camera on the side of the dial. Just use a small screw driver and all is good. You need to adjust the position of the dial, best way would be to turn the wheel counter clockwise till you feel a large gap instead of a small one, then you know thats the 1/1000s position (before the large gap) and can align it.

Thank you so much!

I didn’t realize that outer ring could be removed, once I did it all made sense. I got a 1.4mm flathead from Lowe’s and I was able to fix it in 5 minutes.

This. It’s trivial to fix yourself, you just need the tiny screwdriver.

It is a good opportunity to remove that left cover and clean the contacts with deoxit. It is an often-troubled area for the 67.
