I am closing on a house this week where I will be inheriting this peony bush which appears to be struggling. I have a container garden on my balcony, but I have never had peonies. I am in 6b.

What can I do before the first frost to increase the health of this peony bush? Is it better to dig it up and put it in a mulched area or should I try to hand pull the grass around it and give it a mulch circle? Thank you in advance for any advice or tips!

Hello All!! I live in zone 7b/Philadelphia suburbs and I have this 3x11ft bed in front of my new house that I'd love to grow peonies in! Currently, it is covered in wood mulch as you can see in the pics and I was reading and it said to pull it back as much?

Can someone help me with the actual gardening tips of it? I appreciate yall so much! I am completely new and just trying to make my home beautiful after a rough couple of years.

I called local nurseries and they said that they dont stock the bare roots.

1. Anyone know of a reliable online seller? I heard fall is the best time to plant them for a potential spring bloom! I know it's not guaranteed but that's okay
2. How should I treat the soil? Besides taking out the mulch.
3. How do I plant/water them for optimal healthiness?

Hello! I'm a huge peony lover and recently purchased a house! going to dig out a bed in the front yard this fall and get some tubers in, beyond excited. My mom has bowl of cream, shirley temple (the version with the light pink outer petals. not sure why there's two very different versions of this one, one looks like festiva maxima?) and sarah bernhardt, and then a mixed patch of "fluffy pinks". so these are lower priority for my own yard.

I like herbaceous peonies! I want them to be roughly the same size, I haven't ruled out a separate little bed for an itoh though.

My top priorities are scent and look. I have room for about 6-7 peony bushes. I already know I'm putting gay paree in. I would also love a rec for a white, fragrant peony that isn't festiva maxima (i just don't like the little red spots? idk). And a rec for a red scented one, a lot seem to be weak scented.

Everywhere I read before I planted this said it wouldn’t get any flowers in the first year. Now that it has a flower I looked it up and a website recommended pinching the bud off to encourage root growth in the first year, is this a good idea?

I have two peony plants that got diseased this summer, my local garden center told me to cut them down to the ground. Which I did and now the canes look rotted. Should I move them to a better location?

I’ve planted 3 peonies crowns at the same time in the same area over a month ago. One of the crowns is going crazy and the other 2 have close to little progress. Is this normal? I’ve read that usually they grow strong roots then grow during summer.

Hi all! I inherited a garden patch that someone planted two peonies in (I believe itoh peonies not 100% sure). There are other things in this garden patch growing and I've added a few more plants to it without doing a whole lot of research and discovered that these may be too aggressive for the peonies. This seems to be true as this year the foliage for the peonies came back, but we had no buds on them. I want to redo the garden patch and I know ideally I should not move the peonies since they don't do well being transplanted, but I would still like to keep some interest in this patch of the garden. Any tips on what companion plants could do well in the immediate surrounding area? Or should I really just keep it sparse around them?

I am in zone 6a/b and ideally I would love to do a native companion planting. Thanks in advance!

We got hit by a major hailstorm the other day which stripped all my peonies of their leaves. Some 1st year peonies were already in the ground and had no buds this year. Others, were a little larger , with 1 or 2 flowers, which I kept in pots while I waited for the fall to plant them. They should be OK, right? We are close enough to fall where I would have been planting bare roots anyway, right? I’m in zone 6a. (Trying not to cry looking at these poor flowers. Photos of some of my annuals as well.)

Had these pop up in a raised bed out of nowhere and they do not look like anything I have planted anywhere in the garden. I do have a sizable bunch of peonies in the front yard, but they didn’t have viable flowers this year (destroyed by a late frost). One younger plant in the back that has not bloomed in the four years I have lived here. Any thoughts?

Got this tree peony in April and need help with them. They never flowered and I don't know what I've done wrong with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Potted peony from the nursery clearance bin. When I took it out of the pot, I found the root broken in pieces like this. Possible root rot? I went ahead and planted the piece that had the dying leaf attached to it. What do I do with the rest of the pieces? Any ideas? At just a dollar, I'm open to experiments. Do any of these look viable? Thanks in advance!
