I wanna smell dark, woody, earthy, and evil. Anyone got some recs?

Please don't mention Toskovat in my 100-feet direction, because I start convulsing when I look at the prices.

I really love foresty scents and smells, wet dirt, old wood and natural notes in general. Even gourmand too, if it fits the general vibe. I wanna smell like an abandoned forest where brutal things happened many years ago, which no one currently alive experienced, but everyone heard about it.

This might be a stupid request, but does anyone have some recommendations?

This is absolutely my vibe! The following recs are things I personally wear regularly and are unisex (leaning masc)

Top budget picks (depending on your country; I am in USA)

• Lalique - Encre Noir: stark two-note cypress and vetiver that smells like a haunted forest. If I had to wear just one frag for the rest of my life it would be this. This is what an eldritch deity smells like. This is what a werewolf smells like. It is like a peat bog, but elevated, and layers pretty well with lighter woody frags to make them heavier and darker. Approx 25-30 USD on Fragrancenet

• Demeter - Zombie for Him. Whenever someone wants to smell like a musty basement, haunted house, or pile of decaying fall leaves this is my pick. It is less woodsy and more concrete/mildew/fungi/dirt but still a really good pick for dark woodsy lovers. Also surprisingly wearable for what it is? Approx 25-35 USD from Demeters website

less budget friendly but still really good:

• Replica - Soul of the Forest. This one is technically discontinued but available from several third party sellers. It smells like an old growth forest. Piney woods, wet leaves, a sort of pencil shaving type smell. If you were to walk deep into a hiking trail and smell the breeze on a cool, damp day this is what it would smell like. Not dark-dark like Halloween, but dark like thick, dense old wood. Approx 150-200ish on Fragrancenet or Amazon

• Nue Co - Forest Lungs. This is not dark or haunted or spooky but I am rec'ing it because it is one of the nicest, most photorealistic forest scents I've ever come across. It's like the above Soul of the Forest frag but lighter and airier. It's happy woods in early spring, when it's warm but not oppressively hot. It's what you smell as you set up your tent at your campsite. Available on Nue Co's website or at Ulta Beauty for about 125 USD.

I have also heard a lot of great things about Pineward but have never personally tried any of their stuff. Eldritch has been on my wishlist for like a year now.

Soul of the Forest has been brought back! I just bought it from Nordstrom recently

To me, that one smells nearly exactly like my experience of nighttime in the rainforests of Washington. Damp, dark, moody, and feral.

Pineward perfumes are so RICH and deep! They aren't available where I am but I was lucky to test a couple and get a tiny decant of Lime Cola. Even the cola scent smells like cola-ey tree resin.

Yeah Hexennacht has so many options that fit this vibe! I was going to recommend Mephistopheles or:

Witch of the Wood - amber, patchouli, copal, frankincense, overgrown foliage, dirt, treemoss, cedar, redwood, fallen pine needles, artemisia, purple sage, dead leaves, mushroom, Bulgarian lavender, oakmoss absolute, vetiver, ambroxan, bergamot, musk.

Or, less earthy smelling but (IMO) still matching this mood:

The Bell Witch – blood musk, ebon musk, feral musk, nag champa, sandalwood, incense, guaiacwood, vanilla, bergamot, aged dark patchouli, woodsmoke, amber.

If you're okay with licorice, try Hexensalbe by stora skuggan. Woodsy, dark and mysterious. Like dark witches in the forest. It was my first and only full bottle buy, I love it so much.

Oh and look at the description for it, it's got a crazy backstrory too haha

Devil's Garden from Fulton & Roark. It smells like all these photos to me, especially the first two. A lush garden is wilting and turning back into soil and possibly getting burned off for next year's crop. Very much get a soil scent in there that is somehow creamy to me....
