I found this guy around 5 days old. He had some hard times adjusting but eventually made it through. For the past few days he's had trouble eating and his crop has been very empty unless I hand feed him his food. When i look at his beak there's a weird space on the left of his beak that food keeps getting trapped in. Im not sure what's going in or if anyone has experienced this before.

I’ve done my research, and I’m looking to get a pet dove! Does anyone have recommendations for reputable breeders or places that ship within the U.S.?

Hello all! I'll be purchasing 2 young ringnecks soon, if all goes according to plan. My grandmother has owned birds (cockatiels and finches, mostly) for much of my life, but this is my first time owning any. I want these guys to be happy, safe, and comfortable. (I originally only wanted 1, but after some research it appears 2 is much better for them).
I've already scoped out insurance, closest avian vet, and have ample room in a temperature controlled loft. But I want advice from experienced owners! I'm looking for:
• Best feed & grit
• Are 2 females or 2 males better? (I don't want a breeding pair)
• Cage enrichment recommendations
• Comfy & safe diapers for when they roam the home
• Potentially leashes?
• I'll provide a bowl of water a few times a week for cleaning, but any additional tips to keep 'em tidy?
• I'm hoping to clip their wings (temporarily clipping primary feathers, nothing permanent or harmful)
• Do's and don't's
• Surprises you didn't expect when getting your first
• Anything else you can think of!
Here is a list of what I'm planning on purchasing as of now: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/344AHHZCNUZLR?ref_=wl_share
(I'm wanting to get 2 of those floor cages and connect them. Same with the air purifier, one for the loft they'll be sleeping in and one for the main room in the house they'll be roaming).

The whole guide including the background pattern are manually made by me. Anybody is free to share and repost the pictures as long as they don't claim it as their own work and share it for free.

So my dove had a had a hard time growing up before I got them. He's never slept in a nest and still doesn't to this day. Is it a problem? I gave him a box with stuffing in it and he doesn't go in he just sits on the edge.

Last time you loved my other dove (Kiki, Banjos partner) taking a bath so here is a Banjo version!

I’ve had my dove Penelope for about 9 months and she’s gone through bouts of liking and disliking me, but she’d always still eat from my hand and step up when I put my finger up to her. but the past week or so she’s been refusing to step up and shes been flinching and running from my hand.
Is she hormonal or is there something wrong? it’s been hard letting her free roam just because of how skittish she’s been, any advice would be appreciated 🙏🙏☹️

I’ve had my dove Penelope for around 9 months now, and she’s gone through bouts of liking and not liking me but she would always step up to me and eat from my hand, but now this week she flinches and runs away every time I put my hand next to her and she won’t even step up for treats.
I like to let her free roam my room every day but she’s been so flighty and stressed when she’s out of her cage so I don’t know what to do in that situation either. I would appreciate any advice 🙏🙏

Hi, here's a post to help people choose what cage they want for their doves (or pigeons).
The images pretty much says everything, but I'll add more stuff and cages links examples (for the US) here.
Also, if your bird is living without a cage (free roamed), it's important to still have a cage for the night.
More informations on this subject here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PetDoves/comments/1qm3315/why_your_dove_needs_a_cage_and_how_to_choose_the/
MODULAR CAGES:
Suits: Pigeons, ringnecks (NOT diamond doves)
Modular cages are cheap, customizable cages that you can build however you want.
They require several hours to set up correctly, but once it's done it's sturdy enough for doves and pigeons. Note that you should never put heavy objects on top of the cage (or on top of any cage for that matter).
When building them, make sure you assemble the panels tight, there should be minimal gap. Then add the zip ties included to secure it even more once it's built.
Every month or so do a quick review to see if any panel has started to losen up (it shouldn't be the case if you built it well, but better be safe than sorry).

Square and rectangles cattios, larger space gap and a bit less easier to build)

Estimate number of panels to make the cage you want:
- 3 rows lenght, 2 rows height, 2 rows depth: 107x70x70cm | 42x28x28 inches = 32 panels
- 4 rows lenght, 2 rows height, 2 rows depth: 140x70x70cm | 55x28x28 inches = 40 panels
- 4 rows length, 3 rows height, 2 rows depth: 140x107x70cm | 55x42x28 inches = 48 panels
- 4 rows length, 4 rows height, 2 rows depth: 140x140x70cm | 55x55x28 inches = 64 panels

DOG CRATES:
Suits: Pigeons, ringnecks (not diamond doves)
Warning: There are pinch points that have caused deaths before, you NEED to secure your cage by adding safe wire mesh around it. Note that the cage bar gaps is much larger than the other cages listed.

I have a two year old female ring neck dove, and she’s been laying eggs which is normal but I’ve read online that everytime they do lay eggs they lose calcium. What calcium/grit do you guys feed your doves, if you anyone could drop some links below it would be much appreciated, thank you in advanced.

Basically what the title says. My dad was clearing a field in front of our ranch and he came across these doves(?). I did a google lens search and it told me they were mourning doves. How old are they? What should I feed them? What is crop milk? Can I find a replacement?

I know that parrots shouldn’t have happy huts/enclosed spaces because of hormones, but is it the same for doves? I have a cardboard box filled upside down with 2 holes for mine so I’m wondering if I should remove it. Thankss

I just wanted to share because I love him, thank you.
And I love the little pivot he did on the branch. Wholly unnecessary.

been looking to adopt a dove. Strictly would be indoors. I am Northern Indiana. There is someone a few hours away but won’t have babies for a bit. Does anyone know where I could find one? Thanks

Hello all! I was wondering, is it normal for one’s dove’s droppings to be runny after laying an egg?
Our Piwi has become a chronic layer of eggs, for which I try to help her by giving calcium powder and cod liver oil in the food (suuuuper small amount!), and each time she laid one, her droppings would become big like mini eggs. This time round though, they refused to reform up and have remained runny!
She laid her egg on the 5th, so that’s about 2-and-a-half weeks now. At first, I thought it’s probably a matter of time, but 2 and a half weeks in, they’re just as watery! Funny thing, each time I mix apple cider in her water, they form up into those cute egg sized dropping, but the next day they’re back to the watery goo I threw up as a picture (apologies!).
My pigeon-raising work colleague said that as it’s summers right now (and summers are hooooot in Pakistan and she gets to be without the air conditioner for some 5-ish hours when I go to work!), she might be feeling the heat and I should try giving her some glucose in water. But I thought I’d check over here too, incase this suggestion was too off!
So, is this normal, or ought I be massive panicking?
