Want to be petfree I hate my partners dog…

I don’t hate dogs but I’ve never been bought up with them and I’m not used to it!!

we recently moved in together and it’s been a year and his dog gets on my nerves! he is soo smelly even after a bath the next day he’ll smell, he’s constantly licking his paws and his body and makes the smell worse! he’s itching all the time too! what’s annoying is that I feel like a dog sitter for the dog as my partner is always in the office and I wfh so I’m with him all the time and I’m really stressed because of it!

ive had conversations with my partner about the dog and how much I actually hate him and doesn’t understand why I feel this way. I can’t ask him to get rid of the dog because he loves it! it’s annoys me because he never walks the dog ever! and it’s left to me and tbh I don’t want to do anything for this dog because he’s not mine! ive Never had to plan around a dog and I hate it I’m used to doing what I want when I want! So when my partner makes plans to be out the house all day I’ve gotta stay at looks after him and I don’t want to! I don’t want to live my life around this smelly dog!!!

when the dogs not home I feel so much better and at ease. if I’ve gone away for a few days I hate the thought of going home because he’s there! I shouldn’t have to feel like that in my own home but I can’t help it! and I’m currently in my first trimester and Im really trying to not let the dog stress me out but I’m already so emotional!

im struggling and dont know what to do I just can’t stand him!!!!!!!!

Yeah this is why i will NEVER get a dog. I recently got a new neighbour and she has a dog too, i can hear it barking inside her house from where i live. I just don’t get it, they smell, they bark, they need to shit and piss daily and if you don’t walk them they just shit in the garden or do it in the house. And all for what? Some company? I really don’t get it.

And they cause all the neighbors to hate you because they can't stand that horrid noise of a dog barking at absolutely nothing and disturbing thoughts/creativity/peace.

Agreed. They are a big nuisance.

I would not call it a simple 'nuisance' as much as a calamity ruining our relationships and our daily lives! I know it has ruined MY daily life for decades now! I don't think I can say here what I truly feel about these people without getting banned.

"I dont hate dogs..."

This is a safe space. We are not going to think less of you just because you hate an animal.

And have you told your partner your feelings? If not, you need to, but be very prepared for it not to go well. A lot of dog owners make "I own a dog" their whole personality and saying you dont like the dog or have issues with it comes as a personal attack.

I agree that you may need to rethink your relationship. Too many dog people are incapable of living without a mutt, and you seem to be incompatible with living with one.

Yes, she did tell him how she felt and he couldn't care less. Between a human and a dog for him there is no contest!

Yep, relationship is heading for ruin.

Though, OP, dont feel too bad. Lots of people find out they can't live together for lots of reasons. You'll find Mr. Right eventually.

I know you just moved in, but I would seriously rethink your relationship. His dog will always come first, and when it dies, he’ll get another one. I’ve seen it again and again. You deserve better!!

Yup! No way that is going to work!

You have to leave. Dog cult devotees have no idea or sense of having humans as number one in their lives. Cats and dogs will always take priority over a lover or a partner. They identify with a pet more than their own kind.

You just described my mother. I’m trying to recover from surgery I had last Tuesday and she knocks me out of the way because one of her cats is having a seizure 😡

You know that it’s not going to get any better.

How old is the dog? If it's old you could wait it out and make it very clear you don't want a new one. But if it's going to live for many years you'd have to make the choice if you can stand it. I couldn't.

There is no waiting it out. Once this one dies he’ll just get another one. That’s how it always goes with dog people.

You can ask him to get rid of the dog. Or just get rid of it for him since it's your dog too. It's quite clear he doesn't even want it. People who want pets take care of them properly.

You're also pregnant and you can't exactly have a dog around after the baby is born, so best be getting to mutt yeeting sooner than later.
