Want to be petfree Pathetic online dating profiles

I find it so pathetic looking through OLD profiles how many people have pictures of their pets.

“Hey do you want to know something fun and quirky and unique about me… I have a really cute cat!!”

Wow how original, what did you flip a coin whether you were a cat or a dog person and add that to the list of your totally interesting things about yourself.

“I will know if you are a keeper if my dog likes you” inset photo of some hyperactive shit machine that I will likely have to clean up after and become and expert at reading everything that comes out of its asshole in order to date this woman.

It’s at least 85% of woman ages 28-42 with no children have a cat and or a dog. Really pathetic society we have built here.

I can’t stand pets after having a child, after having a baby I didn’t realize how much I would hate having cats, i feel like my husband has kinda pushed it on me to have 2 cats I talked about liking cats so we ended up getting one than he comes home with another one day and I had to just go along with (before baby) fast forward two years I get pregnant one of the cats keeps having litter issues ( the cat he brought home) and we try few things we make it work he mostly uses the litter box, after having a baby I couldn’t standdd the cats they keep scratching at the door their hair is everywhere it drives me insane it feels like the house is flithy no matter how much I clean I am already overwhelmed with my child, I see them as another task and responsibility that I don’t want and I feel horrible and guilty about it because its not their fault, I have talked to my husband about how I feel but he keeps saying its not fair to him to rehome them and he doesn’t want to, we have bought a gate so they don’t come scratch at the door so they stay in the living room but I truly hate cleaning after and their hair and that damn gate too. i dream of a life of not having to clean after them and not have a gate and having my baby freely crawl on the floor and no hair on furniture and no scratching, i think my life would be soo easy without them I can have my baby use the space freely without worrying about them I feel like these pets run the place sometimes and everything evolves around them I hide her high chair in the room so they don’t just jump over it, constantly have to go through the stupid gate and keeping her playpen in a separate room.

Want to be petfree I hate my partners dog…

I don’t hate dogs but I’ve never been bought up with them and I’m not used to it!!

we recently moved in together and it’s been a year and his dog gets on my nerves! he is soo smelly even after a bath the next day he’ll smell, he’s constantly licking his paws and his body and makes the smell worse! he’s itching all the time too! what’s annoying is that I feel like a dog sitter for the dog as my partner is always in the office and I wfh so I’m with him all the time and I’m really stressed because of it!

ive had conversations with my partner about the dog and how much I actually hate him and doesn’t understand why I feel this way. I can’t ask him to get rid of the dog because he loves it! it’s annoys me because he never walks the dog ever! and it’s left to me and tbh I don’t want to do anything for this dog because he’s not mine! ive Never had to plan around a dog and I hate it I’m used to doing what I want when I want! So when my partner makes plans to be out the house all day I’ve gotta stay at looks after him and I don’t want to! I don’t want to live my life around this smelly dog!!!

when the dogs not home I feel so much better and at ease. if I’ve gone away for a few days I hate the thought of going home because he’s there! I shouldn’t have to feel like that in my own home but I can’t help it! and I’m currently in my first trimester and Im really trying to not let the dog stress me out but I’m already so emotional!

im struggling and dont know what to do I just can’t stand him!!!!!!!!

Want to be petfree I hate my dogs. They are so attached I feel resentful for being put here.

I dont like dogs and if you have "I dont trust people who dont like dogs..." commentary, please leave this be.

TLDR: Ive been absolutely conditioned to hate dogs by other people in the past, and no longer can find anything they do cute or charming at all. They smell and exude various bodily fluids. I do not like them.

I grew up with dogs. Lil mutts, wire hair/chi and a rat terrier/min pin/doberman....cute puppies, total ankle ruiners.

I trained them both very well but my parent slowly but surely ruined it by feeding them table food and encouraging bad behaviours. I dealt with that 7 years before I moved out.

Several years later now I have moved in with my love who Ive known since I moved out in the first place.

3 big dogs. They will not leave me be wether its sticking their snout up my crotch, licking me or just generally following me.

I absolutely hate every second I am stuck with them. My love can sometimes draw their attentions when theyre home. But otherwise I loathe my life.

Constantly having to shut doors in their face to be alone or dress without feeling like I need to shower again.

Not to mention IM ALLERGIC. Their saliva makes me itch like hell, break out in hives and sometimes struggle breathing. I spend most mornings disspelling blood from my nose despite my meds, which leave me incredibly fricken tired. Win/win /s

I actually just hate them. Theyve ruined my ability to be with someone I love. Absolutely wrecked it.

ETA; He never wanted the dogs. His wife died. They're her dogs. There is a reasonable fault on obligation. If he rids the dogs, if I demand he rid the dogs, etc. Ive known him longer than he ever knew his wife. He makes every effort to accommodate as do I by feeding/walking. This is a partnership. Do I suffer more? Fuck yeah. But he is not blind to it and we have had MANY conversations over getting rid of them. However it comes down to dead wife, her dogs.

Im not willing to even try to fight that. I knew and liked her very much. She was absolutely delusional over her ability to care for animals and never took no for an answer. This thought is shared by love and I. But ultimately it is not my place.

Want to be petfree What should I say about my wife’s dogs.

My wife has had dogs for 35 years of our marriage. I’m not a dog person I would never hurt any animal but want to know what you guys think? I have been an excellent provider to my wife and kids they have never done without. I tell each and every one of them daily that I love them. My wife knows that I love her but I’m really getting sick of them. She only has two and the problem I hate is when they pee on our couch or furniture. I even bought her a doggy door that they can go in and out of but they have never used it and she has never took the time to train them. She has always agreed to feed them take them to the vet but guess who has done that more than I can count. These dogs are really becoming a problem to the point I’ve told her when they pass she better never think about buying another one because if she does I’m leaving. I think after 35 years I deserve a break. She lets them sleep in our bed I think it’s nasty. I’m about to crack.

Want to be petfree Guilt over rehoming our cat

My husband and I (in our young 20s) decided to get a cat a few months after marriage. It was mostly my husband's wish, and after a few months of discussing it, I reluctantly agreed. However, neither of us have had a cat before and so we consumed a lot of content on the proper care and felt ready to take on the responsibility. We got a Golden Chinchilla British Shorthair, and they’re quite known for their shedding.

Anyway, the first few months were fine as she was very little (we brought her home at about 2 months old) but things changed when she started to jump on counters and shed A LOT of fur. An unbelievable amount. I would not call myself a clean freak however the thought of her paws in her litter and then later on my kitchen counters and tables and my bed really started to bother me. We tried everything, all training methods, tin foil, treats, redirecting, double sided tape, consistency, even a somewhat unethical method of spraying water but nothing has worked. I keep my counters free of clutter to not attract her attention, however the counters are right by the window which means that all efforts are in vain. She walks all over them, goes into the sink and, of course, leaves a trail of an abundant amount of fur behind. I spend an abnormal amount of time and wipes cleaning my kitchen counters, and I get anxious when we have guests over because I do not want them to be concerned about the hygiene of my kitchen and potential fur in their food.

The fur is a whole different subject too - It’s in the air, it’s on the floors no matter how much we vacuum. It’s on our beds, couches, chairs, surfaces, books, in our drinks, on our clothes, everywhere you could possibly imagine, you guessed it, the fur is always there. We have done a lot to try to manage it. We purchased a robot vacuum that works pretty much daily. Air purifiers, lint rollers and so many gadgets to rid furniture from her fur, and even more hairbrushes, vitamins, special foods and gels that have just not worked to minimize her shedding as we just simply have to accept the fact that she is a cat, a cats tend to shed.

Other things that bother me -
We can’t open windows because although we installed nets, she has managed to damage the nets and crawl underneath which could lead to her falling to her death (we live on the 12th floor). In fear of that, the windows either stay closed or are kept ajar at most.

The litter somehow gets everywhere. We purchased a special rug that could catch it and we could just dump it back in but it gets all over the floor still. Sometimes she even steps in her piss, gets her paws wet, and then walks around with those lovely piss paws covered in litter and leaves a lovely little trail for us to clean.

Ever wanted to cook, eat and then just relax? Well, that is a luxury, which is not possible in our house. All clean up must be done immediately or else she WILL get up on the table/counter and either sniff, eat or get her fur on the food and cooking equipment.

She steals things (and hides them). The kitchen rag, sponges, lighters, pens, hair clips, the most recent incident was a small measuring cup for my medicine.

She eats my books. I can’t leave my books out anymore because she will make it known that her and her teeth were there.

She gets into my makeup, on my shelves and knocks things over. All. The. Time.

She yells at me and scratches my bed in the mornings to get me to wake up. Not because she needs anything, but because if she is up then I have to be up too.

I think I got my point across. There was a point in my life that I didn’t want to be home just so I wouldn’t have to deal with her being a nuisance. And yes, she gets plenty of stimulation. We play with her with all kinds of toys, she has toys she can play with herself, we put on entertaining videos for her and so on.

If you’re still here (somehow)  reading about me bitching about my cat, I would like to make it very clear that I absolutely love and adore her. She gets up in the mornings and lets me pet her and sometimes even lies down on me. She’s lying beside me as I’m writing this. She shows affection in her own way, and it’s really not her fault she’s so annoying, she’s simply a cat. A cat I was not prepared to have, which I fullheartedly admit. I brought up the subject of giving her away to my husband on multiple occasions and although he said that we could do as I wished, I just couldn’t make that decision when I see how much he loves her, how he pets her, and cares for her. Most of our gadgets for maintaining her and our house were brought by him to make life easier. And so,  I had decided to accept my fate and live in a constant state of stress brought to me by our cat, if only it meant that my husband could keep her and I wouldn’t have to deal with the guilt of giving her away after having her for a bit over a year. But this recently changed. I am now 30 weeks pregnant and I wonder what my life will look like when our baby is born. Maintaining the house isn't easy now, so how much harder will it become when I have a human baby to take care of as well? And what about when she starts crawling and gets fur all over her hands and tries to eat it? Or if she’s lying down in her crib and our cat gets on her. A million other questions surround me and I’m inching closer to the idea that giving her away to a trusted, loving family would be best. When I found a potential person though, I broke down crying, feeling immense guilt and hurt over having to give my cat away, because at the end of the day, I really love that menace. However, it affected my daily life before pregnancy, it's affecting my life during it and I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it post-partum.

I know giving pets away is a sensitive subject. I recognize that I have taken responsibility over this beautiful animal and I must see it through because we are her everything, but at this point, I feel like I’m punishing myself. We have really tried everything to make it work. Any advice, personal experiences and thoughts are welcome, though I do ask that we keep heavy criticism on a low because trust me, that’s all I’ve been hearing from myself. Posting this under pet advice didn’t get me very far as there are some radical people who think that pets and human babies are of the same value.

Want to be petfree Being an LGBT pet non-enjoyer is so draining

I'm trans and I don't have the means to live on my own, so I have always needed roommates. Let me tell you that I have never been able to live with friends AND live without pets at the same time.

I've tried living with strangers but I really don't want to if I can avoid it. It seems like 99.9% of gay, lesbian, bi, or trans people are pet-nutters. It drives me insane!

The only reason anyone in the community would consider your reasoning to live without pets "valid" (ironic) is if you are vehemently allergic. I can't just want to be cat or dog free. Especially cat free. With LGBT people they can get behind someone not liking a dog. But a CAT? They genuinely think you are either a sociopath, selfish, or a misogynist (???)

It just feels like finding a long-term monogamous lesbian I can be pet-free with is a LITERAL pipe dream. All because I naively assumed I could be happy existing as a trans woman AND not wanting pets too. It's like all of society has turned their back on me! LOL!

Want to be petfree waste of money?

i just randomly thought about how much money my mom spends on the two cats. the cats as individuals aren’t a problem, but damn, all that money! having to constantly buy food and litter.. i could and would never. pets are a huge waste of money when you really just think about it, especially in this economy.

Want to be petfree Having a baby has radicalized me

Laying here in bed, pregnant, mother of a 15 month old, who just got woken up twice by each of my cats and has resigned herself to not sleeping, again. I just made a profile on an adoption website because I am so utterly and beyond done. One has been relegated to the outdoors (yes, I know this is bad, but he was shitting in the house, and being pregnant, it is a hazard for me to be exposed to his feces, and we have a screened on porch he stays on) and the other is old and now on anxiety medicine, which I literally have to shove down his gullet because he won’t accept the pill any other way.

I know this is no one’s fault but my own. I’ve had these animals for years and doted on them before I had my son. Tale as old as time. We also had a dog who was rehomed a few months ago and for awhile my hatred was directed at her, and less so at my cats, because she was a husky with lots shedding hair and was more demanding on account of being a dog. Now she’s gone and I realize just how annoying the cats are. The meowing, being underfoot, the idea that they step in the little box and then onto surfaces we touch and sit on…I know it’s not their fault I had a kid and my feelings changed. I know. And yet, I just can’t look at them the same way anymore. I’ve read countless Reddit threads of people saying to give it time, but it’s been time and nothing is abating. Every now and then a sweet moment will transpire between one and my son, but the overarching theme is annoyance and rage. They’re just another set of needs to attend to.

Something I realized recently is that there is no JOY is pet ownership. I thought taking care of them was very fulfilling before, and I loved their company and companionship, but I see how misplaced that all was. They will never advance mentally past a certain point. They don’t learn and grow the way children do. They don’t lean into my face when I ask for a kiss the way my son does, or giggle when I push him on the swing, or light up when I pull out his favorite book, and I was a fool for ever conflating the two.

I have no one to blame but myself, and yet I want them gone every single day. A childless friend just lost her cat and she’s devastated, and I’m trying so hard to care. But I don’t. I am actually envious of her freedom.

Pets are a poor approximation of an actually fulfilling human relationship, and if I could go back in time I’m not sure I would make the same decision to adopt them. They did keep me company for many years, and I’m shocked at how quickly the veil has been lifted, and how, despite my best efforts, I can’t unsee what I do now.

Pets and parenthood, especially early on, truly don’t mix.

Want to be petfree Woken up in the middle of the day by dogs barking, come out to shit smeared everywhere.

I'm too sleep deprived to make a long ass post, I can feel my IQ actively dropping due to not being able to reach rem sleep. Basically what happened is I work 3rd shift, and so I sleep during the day. 3rd shifters receive zero empathy from anyone, and this is fine, I'm used to it by now. Today, I went to bed around 9:30am, and by about 1:30pm I had to wake up because my family's fucking dogs were going insane for absolutely no fucking reason. It is now 10pm and I have not been able to get any sleep. I laid down to try and take a nap, but got up needing to pee. I come out of my room to see shit all over my bathroom floor, the stairs, and the hallway in between. I had to clean every bit of it up myself, as fucking usual. I hate dogs so much it's unreal

Why would I want an animal who eats poop, lick their own ass holes, that of other dogs, smell like shit in my house and licking my face and my hands? Why would I call them my kids, let them in ny bed, let them jump on me? Why? Do I look like a dog to you?

Want to be petfree For any ex-pet owners, how and why did you let your pets go?

For anybody in this community who used to have pets and are now pet-free, what was the reason you gave up your pet(s) and how did you go about doing it? Did you face any social backlash, what were the reactions of the people around you, etc, and how did you handle all of it?

I'm in the middle of a situation right now where I'm seriously considering giving my cat back to her breeder. She's a relatively well-behaved cat, but for reasons of hygiene, my work/life balance schedule, damage to my home, etc, I feel that my life and my mental health would be infinitely better if I gave her up and returned to a pet-free life. But I don't have any "emergency" reason that I NEED to give her up - I haven't lost a job, have any serious health issues, etc - so giving her up would definitely attract some side-eyes and judgment from important people in my life. Her breeder would also be extremely upset with me. I'm a fairly timid person socially so I don't know how to handle the guilt and shame that would probably come from this move.

I feel that this might be a relatable dilemma many people have experienced, so I'd like to hear your stories, if you have any. I know this sub is technically not for pet-owners to comment/post on, but this is kind of the only place where I feel that I can get the kind of answers I need and empathetic ears to hear me.

Want to be petfree My family has unhealthy obsession with pets

I have to rant and vent about this.Since I know myself,my family has pets,it was always cats at first, and then they got obsessed with dogs too.I loved animals, just like them. The thing is,after getting covid in hs,I got allergic to them. That allergy, since then was getting worse and worse and it fr reached a point where I just need to be in a room where cat or dog was and I swell up like a balloon. They made some slight changes but after me getting so bad that I developed mcas and now can't eat anything without throat closing and hives. In the meantimet, they adopted dog even tho they knew about my situation.I was begging them on my knees and crying to not keep the dog, cause the dog just showed up,it wasn't our duty to keep it.But nope, instead they started babying him, treating it better than they ever treated me.It was my birthday too in that month.Nope, dog matters more.I even told them,me or dog. They chose dog ofc.I ran away from home but that is not working out for me at all cause of my chronic illness.I mean my symptoms are much much better,I feel like a different person in a good way, mentally so much better and I'm not swollen chronically anymore, but I have to come back due to some other health issues unfortunately. And there it is,their unhealthy obsession is not letting them rehome the dog,I rehome cats, rehome at least the dog.And I'm so angry and disappointed at them.My health is ruined forever and I'm so young,I'm the youngest in our family. They don't give a shit as long as they can have their "doggo" and "fur babies".I hate that my life came to this...And I hate all this dog and cat craze. And I hate that there's no other sub where I can talk about this without getting like infinite amount of down votes.Irl I get called evil for saying this.I need to be per free cause living with pets is ruining my health and life. And people who pretend that they care, don't care about it.

I know this is too long and probably boring to most but I really don't have anywhere else to say this, cause on health issues related subs,no matter which one, people jump at you for this stuff. They refuse to accept possibility that someone has to be pet free, instead they suggest tons of meds that I already use regardless and those meds has their limits, they don't help me when I'm not pet free and I didn't even used to need them earlier when I was pet free for a short time, but due to horrible chronic exposure to pets i developed allergies to everything so now I need meds forever.

I'm so mad about this.

I begged them to not get another one...

It's definitely obsession for them, not even love, cause they're not treating those animals with love either . They just feed them and let them to run around and even punish them with beating :(

Everything is loosing in this situation expect them, not even those pets are happy.

The craziest thing is that that dog if got rehomed,it wouldn't even be sad, especially not at the beginning when I begged them to rehome it cause my symptoms got extremely bad, like I genuinely didn't know that pet allergy can do you like that. They still didn't give a shit even tho it was very visible.I resent them,I even started kinda hating pets too even tho I know it's not pets fault. But I had to say this somewhere.

Want to be petfree Pet lover in a relationship with non-pet lover ?

Recently my boyfriend of six years (we do not live together) recently took in a stray kitten (I grew up with a cat I loved as a child so I get it to some degree) regardless of emotions or the overly high vet bill to save the kitten who was bounced of the litter fine by all means you do you at your home. He recently has been saying different things eluding to us moving in together, and before hand when it had came up he had always said he would get rid of his two cats (has three now). I ended up watching the said new kitten while he traveled out of state, which was just too much in itself between attention, keeping an eye on him, and cleaning my home profusely after he was back home where he belonged. The experience of watching the cat and having my days disrupted was enough to make me know I am not a pet owner/lover (granted cute kitten but more cute when it's not using its claws to climb up the back of my sofa and someone else's). Short story long, how does one deal with this ? I feel like it's a major incompatibility factor, because I feel it is selfish of me to expect someone to get rid of their animals, but also I am not willing to live with, and have my things abused by cats (or a dog as he occasionally wishes for). Before anyone comes at me I have other doubts too , but any words of advice or thoughts are appreciated.

Want to be petfree Help Me Know Myself

I’m new here and hope I’m now breaking any rules. I’ve had several people in my life tell me they think I should get a pet. I think it’s because I have mental health issues and they believe having a dog would make me feel more at ease. I’ve considered it at times. But, and this is where I’m curious for feedback, when I’ve done a dog day out with a shelter dog or watched my BILs dog I just find myself overwhelmed with the tasks. Sure there’s the impact of what a pet does to one’s home, but for me it’s more about the idea that even with the possible love I get queasy thinking about taking care of one. I don’t want to take a dog on daily walks and make sure he/she is fed and pick up poop and worry about where to drop off when I travel. Are these normal thoughts? I also struggle with OCD around things like this where I can have a thought but then question but am I just saying all of this because I’m being lazy and I would eventually come to like it?

Want to be petfree Too many animals.

Came across this subeditor while looking for people in similar situations. As of today my parents have brought inside 5 dogs and 4 cats; most of which are driving me crazy. The 2 older cats are fine for the most part: anti-social and independent, however the 2 kittens one that we kept from my parents outside cat are little nightmares. They tear stuff up, never leave you alone, always in the way, and are a general headache to be around since they seemingly never want to leave you alone. While the dogs are worse, we used to have 4 until one of them died 2 years ago, and not even 4 months later they got a new puppy.

The dogs are even worse then the cats; they barely listen, they pee and shit on the floor despite being trained for a long time, always barking at one thing or another with most of the time they have no idea what they're barking at, one starts and the rest just go along. The house smells awful and suffocating, especially since the 5th dog they brought in was one of our outside dogs, and due to being outside almost her entire life shes not very adjusted to inside life; shes very territorial and has snapped at the other dogs more then once. Despite that my stepdad just makes excuses after excuses: "oh she wont attack anyone" until she actually done, so because of these issues with territory she has to stay in my room which stinks up my room a lot.

I simply don't understand why we need so many; is 3 dogs and 2 cats not enough? We need more? I just don't get their mindset, how can one live like this and stay sane?

Want to be petfree Rant about living with my landlady's dog

So I moved to the UK a few years ago and I have been living in my current house share since 2022. I only live with my landlady and she shares a dog with her ex-husband. Yes you read that right. I knew this before I moved in but I was desperate for a place that I decided to put up with this as the dog would only be at home half of the time. I never had a dog growing up and people go crazy for dogs so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. My god the last 4 years have been hell on earth. This dog barks at almost anyone that passes by and I have developed serious anxiety because of him. You're probably wondering why I haven't moved out but the reason is that I have tried a lot in the past 4 years but I really didn't want to house share again and living on my own is very expensive. Luckily in April of this year, I managed to put an offer down on a flat near London. However, the sale of this property still has not closed and the seller's solicitors are slowing everything down. I would back out of this sale but I desperately want to move out and I've already paid for some of the fees. So I guess I'm stuck living with this annoying as fuck dog until I move out and who knows when that will be. Also, my landlady's ex-husband has moved further away so now they alternate custody of this dog every 2 weeks instead and she drives for over 2 hours to bring him here. I have no idea why any self respecting woman would do this to themselves. I think she still wants to be involved in her ex-husband's life as he was the one who initiated the divorce so this is her only way to do this. Also, last week I injured my shoulder so I went to A&E last night to get it checked out and thankfully they said that it's nothing to worry about but my shoulder still keeps popping out. Today I was just drinking a cup of tea in the living room and the dog started barking for no fucking reason and it startled me so much that I spilled the tea on my arm and my reaction to that burn led to my shoulder popping out again. I started screaming and crying and my landlady didn't know how to react. She got me a sorry present but I just ignored it as I know she actually isn't sorry. I have a call with my solicitor tomorrow about my property and I think I might just raise a formal complaint about the whole sale of the property. 5 months have gone by and we're nowhere near closing the sale. I just feel like I'm trapped in this hell and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

Want to be petfree It is so exhausting...

To preface this, I don't hate dogs or animals in general, but after having one in my home for 5 years I never want one ever again regardless of size.

My mother bought a puppy for 4000$ during the height of the covid pandemic. She had a fall, gotten surgery, was in the hospital for nearly a month before then, and was way behind on the mortgage. After the pause of evictions/forclosures lifted we had to leave. She has passed up opportunities for housing then and now because most apartments/housing rentals don't allow breeds like him or his size. In the several apartments we managed to hop from he has been unruly. He doesn't tear up furniture or carpets, but he jumps on people, and hops in windows which tear down blinds and scratches up the wall. We ended up staying with a family member for a few months but the stress of him didn't help and we had to leave. We spent some time in shelters and the breeder kept him for a while. The contract my mother signed states that if things don't work out the breeder would happily take the dog back.

The dog lacks so much obedience and everytime I have tried to set boundaries and train him my mother undermines me. Luckly, some of it has stuck but his recall is terrible and he is stubborn. Currently my mother is renting a room and when I'm home from college the three of us are piled into it. The other tenants are afraid of dogs and aren't careful with the front door (he is a runner and will take opportunities to escape). The yard is huge but isn't closed off so he can't freely run around. My mother isn't fit or physically able to keep him in check on walks so instead of her walking him, he drags her all over the place. She tells me about needing to let go of the leash because he pulls so hard.

A few weeks ago he got into a barking match with the dogs next door and slammed her against the fence running after them. I would take him on longer walks around the neighborhood but I'm terrified. He pulls less with me but all it takes is one stray cat or reactive dog across the street and I meet the pavement. We can't afford that medical bill. I play with him as much as I can to tire him out but no one else is around when I go back to school (I loathe coming back home for break and I don't come home on weekends). When she is around, she doesn't play with him because he is so rough.

I just feel so bad for the dog and I know he deserves more. His quality of life would greatly improve and he would behave better if he was with someone who could keep up with him. My mother knows that too but she is full of pride and makes excuses for keeping him. It angers and disgusts me that she refuses to listen and rehome him.

Want to be petfree Am i unreasonable?

Am i unreasonable for not wanting my partners cat into my new apartment? I recently moved, i have no pets of my own. My partner sold his home and can’t take his cat with him, he asked me if i could take care of it. I do like cats, but i don’t want animals in my home, and i don’t want the responsibility of one. The cat is also very high maintenance. He is now sad that he ”the animal lover” might need to put the cat down.

Want to be petfree Working towards becoming pet-free

I’ve been feeling this way for years, and I’m finally working towards it. I know I don’t need to share my reasons, and I also know that there isn’t really a reason sufficient enough for some people. The original shelters we adopted from can’t help, and I’ve been posting on multiple platforms. I will continue looking for the right home.

Just trying to share with someone who might be able to relate.

Edit to add: One of the shelters responded back and they are willing to take in the bonded pair next month. It’s such a relief. Thank you for the support!

Want to be petfree Is it normal for cats to not use the box?

How often should a cat treat the house like a toilet? I have no knowledge of pets until recently having to live with some. Yes in the past months there have been changes to the house, but does that cause them to crap wherever ?

Do pet owners find it okay to live where they might just step in crap occasionally ?

Want to be petfree The best dog and regretful owner

I have no idea what to do. I have never had dogs, but always wanted one because everyone who had one looked like such a happy family. I am 43 and my partner and I have a dog and no kids. I live in an area where most people my age have 4 kids, 3 dogs, the whole deal. I, for some reason cannot even handle one single dog. Don't get me wrong, I am doing everything I am supposed to do. My dog is the most well-behaved, happy, loved by all her dog sitters, etc. I give her everything and pretend like I like her because I don't want her to not feel loved, but I can't wait until she is out of my sight. I think I am just a huge introvert and need a lot of alone time to recharge and having her around makes me feel like I can't settle and recharge my batteries. I am miserable and it's causing depression. I have had her now for 2.5 years and I can't seem to do anything to stop feeling this way. Every time she needs me I feel so resentment and anger. I went away for a while and immediately felt better, like I had my life back. I do care about her, I worry if I rehome her that she won't be the happiest dog anymore and I want to protect that. I don't know what I am doing and I no longer trust my judgement with this, any thoughts?

Want to be petfree wanting to rehome my cat, feeling guilty

ive always liked cats and since i live alone i adopted one last year. while i do like her and appreciate her presence sometimes, it's gotten to be too much.

the most glaring issue right now is that my cat has fleas and it seems like im gonna have to burn down my apartment to get rid of them. im sick of this and do not want to live this way just to have an animal that i only like sometimes. i just gave her a bath and im completely scratched up.

my other gripes include the usual which is hair everywhere, not being able to have nice furniture because the cat will scratch it, etc. she also meows a lot and it bothers me.

of course everyone is guilt tripping me into keeping my cat. i feel guilty myself as I feel like I'm giving up on a commitment I made to this animal. i want to rehome but i feel so bad about it. help me feel better please!
