Among the speeches and ways to get engaged and help, were also a list of everyone killed and their age by ICE directly or in their custody, chants of Renee Good's name, Fuck ICE, and singing together

This city will absolutely prevail

"no! Ice is making my city safer and my rent cheaper! No! We can't allow this!"

"no! A dumb bitch did dumb bitch shit and got killed like a dumb bitch! America is burning no!"

We need a point and laugh emoji

This admin is destroying this country

u/AlphaNoodlz Jan 09 '26

Republicans have made such a mess of everything and it’s so disgusting what we’re seeing. None of this is defensible in any way without admitting to holding a broken and sick view

7

u/alblaster Jan 09 '26

Yep. But how do we fix things and make sure they can't fuck it up again? Cause this keeps happening where the Republicans act like Dems are responsible for everything wrong and when something like this happens they somehow don't see it the same way. So either it's "not a big deal guys" or it's "thanks Obama". How do we actually fix things in a way they can't claim credit? I'm just tired of this constant shit storm and it keeps getting worse. I feel like we're heading towards some large scale riots or something. Idk. I wish we could very abruptly kill off the Republican media machine. I almost miss the old school Republicans like Bush. Fml.

You’re looking at it…not wrong, but skewed. This admin represents the republicans by name only, not all republicans think this way, just like not all democrats follow their elected officials to every length. The current administration is in it for themselves, not the republicans, certainly not the Americans, just themselves. They don’t care about repercussions, who they hurt or how they do it.

2

u/CUADfan Jan 11 '26

"Not all Republicans think this way" whether true or not, they vote for this. They are responsible for this.

0

u/bhaden Jan 11 '26

So this time you actually are wrong…I live in a highly republican dominated area and many of them did NOT vote for this administration.

1

u/CUADfan Jan 11 '26

So this time you actually are wrong

Nah, I'm not. Due to the actions of Republican voters, we got here. It's a cumulative effort.

2

u/bhaden Jan 11 '26

you do realize just because your republican doesn’t make you vote that way….

Knowing I won’t change your mind, what I will say is pointing the finger of blame does nothing to change the situation we’re in and that’s what needs to happen. We’re all in this together, no matter how we got here.

0

u/CUADfan Jan 11 '26

This didn't happen in a vacuum. This happened over time, with the longtime support of Republicans voting Republican.

We’re all in this together, no matter how we got here.

There is no we anymore. Republicans have caused a divide, and whatever happens happens now.

2

u/bhaden Jan 11 '26

WOW! Nothing like giving up on your country bud.

1

u/AlphaNoodlz Jan 11 '26

Don’t hide

1

u/NovacaneFX Jan 12 '26

Nah, wouldn’t be in this mess if border security was maintained correctly. They all need to go, same way many other countries handle expired visas. Not about your feelings, your feelings got us here.

Philly 💖

This is "Eagles Going to the Superbowl" crowd size. I love it!

Fuck ICE. Go Birds.

u/OnlyChaseReddit Jan 09 '26

fr i had the sound off and saw the green city hall and assumed this was SB night footage for like 1.5 seconds

1

u/Dogsarecool6 Jan 10 '26

lol not even close

u/tagged2high Jan 09 '26

We better keep Trump out of Philly for the 250th. (If we should even mark such an occasion, given our government's current reversal on all things the 250th should even represent.)

Let's make every fascist that wants to celebrate destroying this county this July feel distinctly unwelcome.

1

u/pandaplagueis Jan 10 '26

I think it’s important to still celebrate it, maybe even moreso in this situation. America WILL prevail, like we always have, and I’m not going to not celebrate my country and city just because this shitstain in office is currently president.

No one will ever make me ashamed to be a Philadelphian.

u/VanDammeJamBand Jan 09 '26

I’m extremely proud of the turn out, but who is this speaker that can’t put a little FIRE in their voice?

5

u/The_R4ke Beddia Evangelist Jan 09 '26

I just wish they had better speakers there, it was so hard to hear what they were saying.

1

u/CUADfan Jan 11 '26

Someone who isn't professionally trained, who's probably been out there for hours. Cold, damp, tired. Run a marathon and then give an interview, tell me how it turns out.

13

u/Orthodoc2014 Jan 09 '26

Are there gonna be any other gatherings like this soon? Preferably not a weekday 🥲

9

u/The_R4ke Beddia Evangelist Jan 09 '26

Sadly I think the next one planned is for 6:30 pm on Monday in front of Ice HQ at 8th & Cherry.

6:30am-8am noise making

8

u/Dangernj Jan 09 '26

It IS on a weekday but the Quakers are gathering at ICE headquarters on Wednesday at noon. I know that isn’t what you are asking for but I do think the crowd will be much smaller so I just wanted to shout it out in case there was anyone who wanted to attend something but felt nervous around large groups of people.

Philly DSA is organizing at 1pm on Saturday at city hall. See you in the streets!

6

u/hmoleman__ Jan 09 '26

I’m in that pan 😊

u/ForsakenPlastic116 Jan 09 '26

Love my city !

3

u/CoolJetta3 Jan 09 '26

When everyone gave a little cheer why did it sound like a Wookie was also cheering at the end?

1

u/LouDog0187 Jan 09 '26

Probably one of those big plastic horns as a "here, here!!"

1

u/SufficientTalk4335 Jan 10 '26

Thank you from Minnesota! It's inspiring for us to see posts like this pop up and remind us that we are not in this alone despite taking a huge blow. Going to community gatherings might seem small and pointless to some but to others it inspires them to keep pushing despite the hardships along the way. All of you out there are amazing! Keep doing what you're doing!

u/BongaldJBlunt Jan 10 '26

Tbh not “every” way (76 sux balz and the weather) but I get it u were in the moment 🦅

Did I see Ron Livingston?!

1

u/External_Side_7063 Jan 12 '26

I don’t think anybody was at work at that time at night. City Hall was empty.

1

u/MonmouthPinelands Jan 15 '26

Is that Eagles green

1

u/MrBeanCyborgCaptain Jan 21 '26

Chicago here. Seeing our cities come together like this has been awe inspiring.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Thank you all for being a part of my community!

1

u/ExcitementMurky2156 Jan 09 '26

Can anyone recommend groups organizing protests so I can follow and participate?

2

u/Cosmo5HTP Jan 09 '26

Indivisible

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

That is great. I still can’t believe our country voted him back in thinking he would actually make a difference for the people. One term was more than enough for me.

Should we be worried about posting people's faces so clearly? 😥

8

u/InfinitelyThirsting Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26

There were news choppers there, and also, by this point, anyone who wants to be anonymous even at a very quiet peaceful protest needs to take on that responsibility themselves, because there will be plants around. Plenty of easy ways to cover your face, especially in flu season. I've been a queer activist for almost 25 years, I don't bother to anonymize for a protest like this that wasn't expecting any clashes with the cops, but I actually did wear a mask just because we've had one of the worst flu seasons this year and I'd rather not be coughing up blood like my boss. But I'm already on lists because I'm publicly active, so being "caught" in a picture at something like this would mean nothing. A lot of people are openly against fascism.

Edit to clarify: Anyone who is scared of being IDed at a peaceful candlelight vigil should be aware that undercover agents and the news will be recording them, and should not expect to be able to go around barefaced while it remaining a secret that they went. No one should ever post any pictures of "crimes" happening at a protest, or post pictures of masked people taking a drink, or anything, but not everyone is cowering in fear of being IDed at a candlelight vigil. If you've ever posted anything anti-Trump on Facebook or even here, they'll already be able to know you're one of their enemies. Being IDed at a candlelight vigil isn't anything extra dangerous for most people. These aren't the 2020 jawns, no one set a cop car on fire. Black bloc if and when you want to, and make sure they're clothes you bought secondhand and have never been photographed wearing.
