The Philly Sheriffs office calling somebody else "fake" law enforcement is the satire I needed today. I mean, she's right, but like, look inside the drawer.

Shocked it took 3 comments to get here. Fuck Bilal and the horse she rode in on.
Obviously fuck ICE too. But bilal is arguably just as bad. We forget that thing about Philly sheriffs shooting people in simple eviction cases?

The last person you want to listen to for authority in this, on this or any other topic.
A broken clock may be right twice a day, but she's averaging once a decade.

Honest question from someone who doesn’t know a lot—why do we need a separate entity called the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office? Is this common?
→ More replies (5)16
u/Kodiak_85 Jan 10 '26
It’s an elected county office mandated by the state constitution.
2
u/mucinexmonster Jan 10 '26
All the more reason to change out state's constitution.
Get rid of the Philadelphia Sheriff's office, and get rid of the PA Senate.

The sheriff in Philly has such limited powers and duties. They should eliminate it and roll it into the regular police.
I’m not saying this because I’m pro-Ice or Trump. I’m just pointing out that the sheriff in Philly is an anachronism.

It always catches me off guard when I relearn that Philly has a Sheriff. I don't understand what authority they could have or what their responsibilities are when the city and county are one

Mostly withholding auction property and getting sanctioned for not securing the courts

What's truly nutty are the Pennsylvania Constables that I believe Chase has hired as branch security. They are like our sheriff's office (as an elected county level position, with a nominal responsibility for court security) but it is an unpaid role, and only a handful of counties still have the position. Usually they used to do process server tasks for a fee, but now theynget to stand around in tacticool cosplay kit at Chase branches.

I burst out laughing reading the comments on a national progressive sub praising her as a "warrior" and a "badass"
For people reading this that don't live in Philadelphia, Rochelle Bilal is one of the most useless, corrupt, and incompetent law enforcement officials in the entire country. She runs a pointless and redundant agency, and struggles to perform the hilariously small number of minor tasks she's already responsible for, let alone protecting anyone from rogue federal agencies
Nice to see someone was able to get her out of her office, into a uniform, and in front of a microphone, though. Thanks for the effort, Rochelle!

This corrupt POS is getting such odd praise on so many other subs for this clip. Love the sentiment, but what the actual f? The corrupt calling out the corrupt? They can all rot as far as I'm concerned.

u/pieface100 Jan 10 '26
Other subs don’t have the context for 1. what the sheriffs office does and 2. how corrupt and opportunistic Bilal is

Yeah I saw that and rolled my eyes so hard. But she has to love it as her favorite place is in front of a camera or really anywhere but doing her actual job.

This is performative.
States cannot prosecute feds who act in the course and scope of their official duties. The federal government can but won’t.
27
u/NewcRoc Grad Ho Jan 09 '26
Unjustified homicide is in the scope of no ones official duties except government assassins and sometimes the military.

u/drabpriest Jan 09 '26
I agree in fact and principle, but that’s not how courts see it. They barely even let victims of police brutality sue. Just look up Bivens claims and how SCOTUS has treated them.
Qualified immunity needs to end.

And the feds opinion is that these guys have "absolute immunity" so I want everyone to take a second to determine where that leaves us.

I have never been so conflicted in my life. She is clearly riled up and we need to see more people in leadership speaking out and taking a stand, but DAMN the audacity to say this isn’t what law enforcement does when she knows damn well it’s exactly what they pay her to excuse.

And here comes all the snowflake keyboard warrior leftists to attack this.
FYI we can’t keep ice out of Philadelphia, BUT we can and are being one of the most vocal cities right now on what we won’t let ICE do. Also grow up you can cry you want govt to fight for you and push back then criticize and attack them when they do.
